Illinois has made some progress regarding gun laws in recent years but is still terrible when it comes to overall respect for the Second Amendment. The Land of Lincoln requires you carry a license (an Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification card or "FOID") for firearms-related purchases.

The state also has an automatic waiting period when buying handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

This offensive set of laws is nothing short of draconian.

The Rhode Island state government staunchly supports red flag laws – these gun violence prevention laws vary from state to state, but all restrict the rights of gun owners.

They let the police seize your firearms if a court deems you a threat to yourself or others. In some cases, this process can be initiated by a family member; i.e., an angry spouse petitioning the court.

Many argue a mechanism for gun seizure already exists through restraining orders and other existing measures.

The State of Hawaii has some horrific gun laws; the state requires you to get a permit to make any gun purchases. The license required is a "may issue" style permit with a "good clause" set of rules.

These extremely restrictive laws also apply to any firearms temporarily brought into the state for hunting trips.

Finally, magazines that hold more than ten rounds are banned.

Maryland gun owners are severely constrained by a "may issue" concealed carry permit system. Applicants must provide evidence of a credible threat to their lives to justify getting a permit.

Anyone who buys a handgun in the state must register them with the state police in addition to submitting their fingerprints.

The state also limits magazines to 10 rounds and effectively bans assault weapons – as if that would give any criminal pause.

A short time ago, Connecticut banned bump stocks and anything designed to make a gun shoot faster.

This ban made gun owners with this modification either export said guns, destroy them, or turn them over to police.

The new measure significantly dilutes the Second Amendment in the ironically nicknamed Constitution State, but our bad news doesn’t end there.

All black guns that hold more than ten rounds are illegal. Why does the color of a gun matter – I mean, we're all supposed to be color blind, right?

Like Maryland, New Jersey has very restrictive "may issue" permit laws that discourage many prospective gun owners from ever getting a firearm.

The rules for this state are always in flux. You might not even know if any of your guns fall on the ever-changing list of restricted firearms.

Otherwise law-abiding gun owners traveling through New Jersey can turn into felons overnight by the confusing and arbitrary gun laws there.

For decades, California has remained the poster child for gun control.

This state disrespects the 2nd Amendment on a routine basis and with Democratic supermajorities in Sacramento, things are about to get a whole lot worse.

Not only does California ban several types of firearms and magazines that hold more than ten rounds – most gun manufacturers have to produce unique models that are "California Approved."

Unsurprisingly, some have given up altogether.

The birthplace of the American Revolution has fallen from grace and is now universally regarded as one of the most anti-gun states in the nation.

A license is required to purchase and possess all firearms, and a "may issue" permit system discriminates against those living in urban areas – 92 percent of the state's population.

Shocking absolutely no one, assault weapons and magazines over ten rounds are banned as well.

Although not a state, the District of Columbia is part of the United States of America and has an atrocious set of gun laws.

If you want the most basic of firearms in the District, you are going to need jump through every hoop imaginable, short of getting the words "gun owner" tattooed on your forehead.

The concealed carry system previously in place was deemed so restrictive, the Supreme Court found it unconstitutional.

Even with that landmark decision, Washington D.C. remains the worst municipality for gun owners in the United States!

New York lawmakers take pride that their gun laws are especially draconian.

The original version of the NY SAFE Act accidentally made it so any duty firearms police officers carried were likely illegal because most hold more than seven rounds.

This was amended to ten rounds, so officers wouldn't have to arrest themselves.

When the state government banned so-called high-capacity magazines they didn’t allow a grandfather clause, giving targeted owners three options; turn the firearms in question over to police, transfer them out of state, or turn themselves in.

The increasingly hostile attitude towards guns caused Remington Arms to move its operations from Upstate New York to Alabama – one of the friendliest states for gun owners.

Rhode Island. Nothing like guilty until proven innocent. Anybody with an ax to grind can make a claim to the State Police or Attorney General and they confiscate for an undetermined length of time. Then you get to see what shape your guns are in IF you get them back. Hint: they’re never in the same shape as when confiscated. When an acquaintance lost his due to a domestic violence charge ( which was rapidly dismissed) the Trooper took them in an arm load and tossed them in his trunk. The antiques lost 25% value immediately.

I have zero interest in buying any more handguns as anything new that has come to the market is virtually not legal to purchase in Ca because it doesn't meet law that was created for technology that doesn't exists. My only hope is to find a used handgun that someone bought before the law changed.

Chicago controls the state of IL. after the republican governor lost the election in NOV. 2018 the democrat governor who was elected signed a bill sponsored by the Chicago democrats to force all gun stores to be licensees ($1500 per year) also they must monitor by video record all gun purchases. There will also be a 72 hour wait after purchasing a weapon of any type before you can take it home. The speaker of the house (democrat) held this bill that is supposed to go to the governor after passage for signing until the democrat governor was in office knowing that the republican governor would veto the bill.

Per the Chicago Dems this will help control the shooting that is happening in Chicago! I don't see how since you must have a F.O.I..D card to purchase a legal weapon in IL already. An if you buy an illegal weapon you are not buying from a gun store! ARE YOU!

This is just smoke and mirrors that the DEM's do every day to stay in office.

Dave, well done. Paste in New York CITY on top. It’s above and beyond anything on this list. The NYPD has imperial power over NY state. And then ratchet it up further if you want a pistol. There’s a Supreme Court battle over NYC handgun transport as we speak.
I held rifle and shotgun paper until recently, until they wanted me to submit a psycho analysis among other ass kissing forms. I have them in custody, out of state until I can be too.

Wayne, are you serious about the Psych Eval? Kind of ironic isn't it...NY just passed legislation to legally murder the defenseless and are concerned with your mental health. Goes beyond the pale of immorality.

Dead serious. It was a form. I probably still have it. I was also supposed to have a form signed off by other non minors in the house and notarized that they know a firearm is there, secure and they’re ok with that.
When these things started ratcheting up, I bailed.

Simple. Don't live there.
Easier said than done. I’m a 4th gen around here and it was the country in the city. It kills me to see this place, and the remainder of the city along with ALL cities funnel down the vortex.
I’ve been planning my exit for some time/ about ready to go.
The last rifle I wanted to buy was a .22 or something like a 10/22, but the Gander Mountain an hour outside of the city wouldn’t sell me any .22 because they weren’t born with a 5 mag. I REALLY wanted a Henry, but that’s DEFINETLY out unless you destroy the mag tube.
I wound up with a Savage Axis .223.

One of the main reasons I left Comifornia, they made me a criminal without me commiting a crime. I refused to turn in my AR15 and they would of had to pry it from my cold dead fingers if they had tried. I'm just about to submit my CCW in Nevada, which is easy. The States that are abusive to gun owners have others plans they can't tell you about, NYC is just more open about it now.

This is the future of our Country, your Great Great Grand children are going to wonder why we gave up so easily. If the docrination doesn't get to them first, then they'll be in re-education classes teaching how we (us gun owners) were the lowest form of human. Its coming, its just a matter time.

NYC is just more open about it now.
25 years ago a co worker sent in the $300 to NYPD to start the pistol paperwork. Problem was it was a check and not a money order. They sat on it for 6 months before sending it all back to start over- this time send in a money order or bank check.

The problem is that they only harass rule followers- in any topic. The old fact that only the law breakers will have *insert contraband* and/ or commit whatever act really holds true. The fact that they’re rolling penalties back is the real kick in the nuts.
Take public urination. They rolled that back years ago, and just the other day, as I was threading up through a historical (pre revolution restoration) part of town, there was a car, up on the curb, almost blocking traffic (the roads are basically the original stage routes) and there was mister ganga man letting it all hang out whizzing in the direction of a 300 year old house.

Congratulations!!!! on leaving Commiefornia Take as many FRIENDS as you can we just got back (And got DISINFECTED) I found several drivers & families that are leaving, 1 single management person who was unable to find a female with more brains than the Kardashians in Commiefornia (Big Surprise). Several of the wives co-workers are coming out to check things out seems like they are not welcomed because they believe that the Illegal Imports need to learn English NOT that the teachers should learn Mexican

Yep, sold two homes, and only have the boat trailer (boat done already) and 5th Wheel to transfer to Nevada, that will be done in two days. I miss the Bike (Harley in signature) weather though, the riding season is in the Fall and Spring here in Las Vegas.

I have camped, fished and hunted in western NY most of my adult life. The laws there are so contradictive to the lifestyle. I truly feel for the country folk of NY. If New York City could be severed at the head it would be a conservative state from what I have seen.

What ever happened to the micro chip implanted in the hand? Was that a Cali thing or just a thing?
