This is a complicated scenario, but here goes: I have an extra truck, ‘96 Cummins 2wd manual RCLB. I have been daydreaming about putting my 1968 F250 body on that frame. Cool, but way cooler if it was 4x4. So tonight I hear of a ‘96 V10 4x4 auto RCLB with bad engine and transmission for cheap. So...

What is involved in swapping the 12valve and NV4500 into that rig? Different transmission output shaft? Different transfer case?

Thanks for the link. Good stuff, but I don’t think any of those issues will apply since I’ll be going ‘96 CTD into ‘96 V10. I’ll have both running trucks complete, so I believe I can just use the diesel dash and manual column etc. the part where my mind hits a roadblock is connecting my 2wd nv4500 to the auto transfer case. I think what I’m reading says you have to change trans. output and tcase input shafts? (Along with the tcase adapter)

What does the 12V currently have for a Transmission now.

Maybe Novak has something already set up for what you are looking to do.

Here is a build on mopar1973man.

I have been following this for a while now.

So build away and overcome the obstacles one at a time.

Unlike me, if you can truly spend a little time every day or every few days and have a build plan.

I would get the width and dimensions like basic wheelbase and do the math to see how it would looks wheel wise.

Good luck with your project.

With the high value of your 1996 Cummins ... I suggest you concentrate on that diesel pickup, aka it's diesel VIN, making it a 4X4 etc. I would be concerned about the coming EPA crackdown where stripping emissions equipment off a V10 gas engine VIN to convert to diesel is a big no-no. Yesterday is gone with the green agenda in power now and prior to that the EPA already went after delete tuners and shops.

I agree with the EPA deal, but if the width is pretty close and the front wheel can be made to sit nicely in proportion to the fender.

Crank up that P-Pump and let's get this thing rolling.

I would think you need everything front of that NV4500 forward.

Have you tried to look up the bell housings on a parts site for a 96? My 96 is an Auto so no luck helping there.

I should have checked before that last post.

Maybe they are the same Advance Adapters lists the same bellhousing for Diesel and V10.

Thanks, but the bellhousing (i think) would be fine as is. My concern is where the manual transmission and auto transfer case mate up. I won’t own an automatic. That’s what took me so long to find the two ‘96es. Only manuals need apply

From my reading, seems like I need a new, 29 spline mainshaft for the transmission and the corresponding 29 spline hub for the transfer case. Tcase is pretty simple and cheap, Trans is a little more involved. The one I have has no issues, do y’all think it’s best to modify it, or shop for a 4wd one?
