Replacement downpipe?

My 12cm2 turbo housing should be arriving soon. I heard that you must modify the downpipe for this installation. Is this true? Does anyone have any other tips for this installation? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Wirenut.

You will have to modify the downpipe if you have the stock turbo on now. It needs to be shortened a little.

If you want a prefab'd unit, Banks' part number for the head pipe is 52118. But you need some way of getting the old one off (torch and impact chisel).

Thanks for confirming Mark! Isn't it flared on the end? I geuss I cant just take the 'ol porta-band saw to it. I wonder if there are any tricks to "rigging" it. Any suggestions? I got too much money in the 5" stacks I'm running to buy a downpipe. I think the shop I'm getting the stacks from sells that piece that connects to the turbo for big rigs. Maybe I can get a 3 inch one.
 
I would try to cut the pipe at the bottom where it hooks to the transfer case pipe instead of trying to re-flare the down pipe.
