How to get the turbo apart

I am considering running dual 4" or 5" chrome smoke stacks on my rig. It is a rectangle regular cab (its on page 7 reader's rigs if anyone would like to take a peek) What do you guys think? How would it look? I also must consider either the turned-out ones or the 45 deg. balogne cut ones. Let me know your opinions 'cause I'm ready to chop and splice! Some of my friends are gonna call me a real hick but I think it would look good. Plus, I gotta get some of that smoke up in the air 'cause I'm almost causing accidents pulling out at stoplights! #ad

I'm as much as hick as the next guy, but I'm not sure about stacks on your ride. . Man thats a nice truck and looks sharp. I don't know if stacks would add to the look or not. I'm not a big fan of stacks on pickups.

Everyone's got thier own preferences but since you're asking, I've got to agree with Jason on this one. If it was a dually with a flatbed and lots of other hardware to set them off it might be different, but I think stacks tend to have an overkill effect on a standard pickup.

Aw man! Now I feel bad.
If it makes you feel any better, I've had a 13spd roadranger shifter setup, complete with range selector and air lines since I bought my truck. Sure is fun to walk out of a store or resturant and see some guys legs sticking out from under my pickup. (usually another Cummins owner) #ad

wirenut,I,m also considering stax for my 93 duelly ext cab I think they would look good but I can't find where to buy them can any body tell me where to get a set of nice stax,I don't see how it could make a pick up truck look bad,I think it would be an eye catcher for sure, you don't see to many around.

<font color=blue>Take a peek at this website.
Scroll to bottom of page, stacks offered

Here is a picture of a non dually that has stacks and all I can saw is awesome! The look of Eric McBride's truck is very similiar to what I desire to have my truck look like. Definalty going with a 4. 5" Skyjacker lift and 35 or 36" Mickey Thompson Baja Belted or Super Swamper SSR's, on Weld Typhoon or Scorpio wheels. But thats all coming "next" summer... #ad

WOW! Nice truck! Now thats what I'm talkin' about! Don, a 13 spd? How'd ya do that? I want one. (or I want 13 I should say) How much money do you have in that transmission? Please post back or E-mail me about that cause once a BOMB a little more, I think my Getrag WILL BE ragged. It's okay, you guys didn't hurt my feelings. I agree that certain trucks just don't look right with stacks-(that's why I asked) but, I think that (set up right) you can make stacks look good on anything, even an S-10! (maybe not) #ad
Sooo... . I have decided that I am gonna start getting ready for a set of 5 inchers, only sticking up about 6 inches above the cab. They will be in front of my tool box-this will make them not look so... well... uh, you know. I also might get one of those racerback cab fairings and cut holes for the stax! (I saw an '95 F-350 srw. done like that and it looked awesome! for being a drof. ) Go ahead and give me some more posts if you would like guys.
thanks

Wirenut, Sorry for the confusion. I noticed in your sig that you had a Roadranger shifter. Me too, but it's still a Getrag underneath. When I first bought my pickup I had to lean forward to reach fifth gear. Being an ex-trucker, I had a box of of old "super trucker" type accessories and after diging through it I found a 1. 5 inch shifter extension. It fit on the stick but the threads were wrong for the stock shift knob. Back to the box, and then came the 13spd overdrive split knob. Felt just right but looked weird, so I went ahead and put the range selector under it and hooked up air lines to both and ran them down into the shifter boot. All fake, but like I said before, I do find guys under my rig trying to figure out how in the hell I got a 13spd in a 4x4. #ad
I do have a friend up the road who put a 10spd Roadranger in his '92 2wd. It required a three inch body lift, air comp. , and a spendy adapter from Advanced Adapters. Sorry, I guess this doesn't have much to do with stacks. #ad

Still awesome though! I like the feel of my shifter, it feels like you got something under you! It makes a nice place to mount that exhaust brake switch. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole the whole way through mine and tapped both sides for set screws to hold mine on that little shaft. I've been on the drawing board about my stacks... . I think I have it figured out how to get my exhaust to the bed, but still can't decide on 45 degree cut strait stacks or turn-outs??? I can't decide which would look better.
Murdock: Look for a big rig garage that sells parts and stuff. Thats where I found mine. I think they are actually just the top part of a stack for a rig that comes off thier vertical muffler! Any shop that repairs rigs and does thier exhaust systems should be able to order them for you. They also have 5" to 3" reducers.

I got them on!!! W #ad
W! I love them. I didn't think they would change the sound much..... boy was I wrong. It sounds exactly like a big rig with straight piped stacks! It looks awesome and my friends liked it. 2 streams of black smoke. Get this>>>I was getting 27 lbs. of boost with it just straight piped, now I max out my boost gauge at 30psi. I haven't even put the 12cm2 turbo housing on yet! Its still the stock one. It is LOUD! You can really here that turbo singing! If you are considering it... . DO IT!

Wirenut -

No teasing aloud! We want pictures! Seriously try to snap some pictures... . I would liek to see how it came out. GLad ya got it together tho... .

How do I get the picture on there? I already have a few in my computer.

Oh... one bad thing... . if I open my rear sliding window and get on it, a cloud of smoke comes in the cab! You ever had trash in the bed of your truck and have it fly in that back window??? Same thing happens with the smoke!

To make it faster on the pictures, email them to me. I'll provide some "Webspace" and I'll email you the "links" back so you can post them here and give your own description.

I'll explain how to do it when I email you back.

Yep your a nut! #ad
On the serious side did it improve your EGT any at all. And of a scale of 1-10 just how much louder is it? I want to straight pipe mine..... But mine is subject to DOT inspection at ANY time. Thanks, Mike

I don't know exactly how much it improved egt's because my new pyro has not come in yet, but this exhaust system is much more free flowing than just taking the muffler off. It gave me 3psi of boost... this is a good sign. If you put your hand over one of the stacks, the air coming out is actually cool where before (with it just straight piped) you couldn't hold your hand in the exhaust too long! I'm not saying you should go get a set of stacks because just straight piping it will help a good bit also. Loud? Well, if you have a good muffler and you take it off, it will seem pretty loud, but you haven't heard loud until you have 2 straight piped 5" stacks right behind the cab! #ad
I don't know if outside the truck it is any louder being that all the noise is going straight up.
