1990 f250 cummins swap help

Cummins 4BT Frito Lay Van - For Sale

I am also working on the fuel feed and return system. I am using Synflex Plastic line . 1/2" feed and 3/8 return. I have already mounted the dual fuel filter and water separator under the truck. I took the fuel tank down and found the previous owner had made a draft pipe, like a draw straw. . and its 1/2". . I want to get the synflex from there to the filters, then to the lift pump, then into the injection pump. For the fuel return, I want to get a Banjo to A/n fitting to allow use of the stock over flow valve. . and figure out something for the injector return banjo too. . I may see if my friend can fabricate a aluminum or brass block that the injector return will bolt into and a pump return will thread into. . with a 3/8" female thread to leave the block and return to the tank with synflex etc... any Ideas???? I had run synflex on my '92 first gen . . but I never did it 100% . . ie no injector returns, and pump returns, or pump feed etc. . I had stopped after the lift pump.

Thanks

Nice build, looks like you are doing things right. Here is a link to an outfit that builds custom bumpers to give you some more ideas. My Silver Dodge is in the gallery, they are a form bumper, I have made 2 of them myself so far and it is not that hard, with your skills I am sure you could handle it. I just watched them build the one on the Dodge then went from their on the 2 I built for myself.

Twinkle Welding Gallery Page

I built one for my 90 FordCummins and one for my Offroad truck. Couple pics for ya for some ideas.

Worked onthe Excursion today. Got some stuff accomplished. I had installed the fuel tank last night. I am using the Eaton Synflex Plastic lines. #ad

They are easy to work with and I like em.

I also cleaned up the rear passenger side shock mount skid plate. . I decided to nueter it ha. . no reason to have a huge plate there.

#ad

I ran the fuel lines to the fuel filters and forward.

#ad

Then I messed with the suspension again ha. . I added the 3 1/2 " F250 factory tapered blocks in the rear.

#ad

I also added another leaf to the front spring pack to get the front up a little. . it added 1 inch to the height. . from 8 3/4" to 9 3/4" tire to wheel well in front 11" in the back. The extra front leaf was another long leaf from the excusion G code rear leaf pack. . seems to be ok. . i will have to see how it drives...

I am running new brake line from the front of the truck to the rear , and getting new ubolts for the front and rear tommarrow. I found out my serp belt set up is not a 94-98 dodge a/c style. It seems that serp belt is 3/8 of a inch to short. . so I have to go and return the new napa one and match it up tommarrow.

Also worked a little on the Turbo situation. . I plan on running a twin setup. . but teh Superduty A/c is tight. . especiallly the excursion due to the rear a/c. . as you can see from these pictures its tight . .

can't even fit a small HT3B in there with out disassembling it argh. I did chase the threads on the rear bolt hole behind th eengine to make abottom turbo support bracket.

oh well more pictures and fun to follow!

Thanks

been working on the Ex, But my $ flow had diminished. i had sold the rims and tires, bought soem parts, new Moog balljoints, and other stuff and no its gone ha. . Got to wait to get paid. . not gonna use my credit card argh. ha its kinda a funny situation as I used up my grinding disks, my chop saw cut off wheels, black rustoleum. . etc ha I had to dig thru my scrap metal pile for a used grinding disk that had a little more meat on it , I'm down to 1 extra sawzall blade... . ha oh well. I'm still trying to do things that won't cost a lot of $ now ie finish the electrical wiring and get my twin turbo mounting bracket fabbed up. The Ford Super duty is tight fit. . and a HT3b style turbo kinda suck to fit in there as the rotation is different then a k style. . I made up a bottom turbo support bracket yesterday. I still have to figure it out though. . as its very tight. . I have to take apart the turbo and reassemble it in the engine bay. . test fit / mark then disassemble it to remove it argh... I'll post soe mpictures later

Thanks

It is tight engine compartment. . I should just swap turbos, to a k style but thats not a challege argh. . plus I'deea have to buy another $ part... . the bracket is shaping up. . still have to get a lot worked out. . too much stuff in the way. . then I still have to source a cast holset elbow for the compressor outlet argh ha... heres some of the pictures.

Support Bracket fab...

Trying to figure out the bottom turbo. . the A/C lines for the rear A/c are real close too I will probably have to get aturbine heat blanket or re route the a/c lines. . mummn even the turbine houseby it self is heavy ... any ideas?

Thanks, Do the " #'s mean inlet or outlets?... As this turbo as a large o ring flange on its comprressor outlet I need that to connect to the smaller hx50 compressor inlet etc. . I'll post some pictures so you see the size etc.

Thanks,

Deo

They are the Cummins p/ns for the alum elbow that attaches to where the air comes out of the turbo and heads to the CAC. They are for an HX30/40 style turbo. I could come up with some other p/n for larger turbo if you want. it would take a bit of research. To make it easier tell me what you want and I will see if I can find it. Shadrach

Thanks for the link Shadrach, I just posted over on it. Thanks for the compliment Moe!, And Carl I am interested would it fit that outlet? do you have the v band clamp oring? Let me knwo how much $ ?

Thanks... I have been playing with the turbos last night. I went and got my hx50 6cm back to test fit. My buddies dad is 50% finished with a modifed 9cm turbine housing. The bore is milled out the fit the turbine fan in and seat it. . , now we need to machine the hold down clamp studs and get the waste gate arm mounting fabricated. . etc. . any how the 6cm turbine will work for the fab / mounting etc. . I had to cut my support bracket and try to lift and hug the engine with the ht3b. . The hot pipe I have is pipe and will support some weight, if I get the right location. It is downright a bear to mess with. I have been holding the ht3b via ceiling mounted sling ha ;) and swinging it over to test fit on a extra engine in the garage. . its a pain to unbolt and transfer parts back and forth too. . oh well builds character and is easy to cut / weld with. . I'll post some pictures later

Well I messed around fro a littlebit. . seems to be tight even without a wastegate spacer between the manifold and small turbo. withthe hood closed it hits barely with out a spacer. . so if i did twins I'd have to cut and weld my ATS manifold ot fab a new manifold from weld el's. . mummn . . Hopeing to figure soemthing out soon. . Might have to put it back togther as it is to save $ and time. . not sure . . heres some pictures. .

mumn which way. . ? the turbo actually needs to be clocked that why it sits in the pictures. . it can't be clocked with out running a spacer. . the ATS manifold actually has a recess ground into it to clear the compressor, and so does the compressor housing and its retaining plate. its a tight fit. .

#ad

if i ran a spacer I could clock the trubo oultet dow nor level and get about the same clearence I have now. . just trying to figure that out or just leave it argh i have big spacer that lifts the turbo about 3 inches but it need s to be modified. . maybe I just need a cowl hood instead ? :):-laf

well i've been messing with the setup for the last week. At first I was attempting to cut a huge 1" thick chink of cast iron to make a spacer like engineered diesel that i could machine out to have waste gate ports in it, and have it off set the turbo to clear the A/C etc. .

#ad

It took forever to cut and i still never fully sever it . . my chop saw was working hard too i ended up keeping a garden hose running on it too and i never finished it ha all day working on it. I tried a simple small spacer i had and it gave enough clearance to clock the turbo and to not hit the A/C. The only issue was that the thin spacer could not vent to the wastegate. . so I decided to mount the wastegate on the manifold. I heated it up really well ands welded it. . same way I have done with some other cast stuff and it has held well. .

I clocked the small turbo down and started playing with trubo placement for the big one. the big turbo is gonna be tight
