I believe somewhere the number $30k was mentioned. If I were shopping the used market, and had plenty of time to look, I'd go for the '98 12 valve. But 24 valves do have some advantages - like 100k between valve adjustments, dowel pin problem fixed, thicker shaft on the 6 speed, and block cracking fixed with thicker casting. And if I had $30k to spend, I'd be buying a BRAND NEW 24 valve from some dealer who wants to clear the lot for '03's, not somebody else's 3 or 4 year old, 50k to 100k USED truck. These Cummins hold their value, which is not necessarily good for you if you're on the buying end of a used truck deal. Some folks are finding deals like $7500 off list, which gets you a new truck with full warranty, and you can insure it is driven, broken in, and maintained "right" (whatever that is for you) from day one...
