best thing anyone can do - STOP buying chinese made stuff. they are the worlds rapists today....cheers comrades!

How much chinese stuff do you think is on our RAM trucks? Hardly any computer chips are made in the US anymore. We can not even build military weapons without components from china.

all you can do is try. thats all im saying. heck, we all have mexican made trucks. thats fine with me. at least mexico doesnt want to kill us. our trucks use components from all over the place. GLOBALISM SUCKS. id happily buy another ram truck even if it was made by the mexican cartels. just NO more china. anyone but china. thanks for the virus!

This thread is a case study of why anyone wanting to tow a 5th wheel of a mid to larger size should skip right over 250/2500's and start with at least a 350/3500 SRWs. We made two round trip to Arizona for the NW with the 16K Bighorn. The second picture is of son Travel Supreme that we moved in Eastern Washington.

My 2500 tows 26k gcw almost daily this time of year. 20k miles on my 2 year old Lamar dump trailer with a lot of off highway and 4x4.

Yep, 01 2500's with camper package were 3500 SRW in disguise(I had a 2001.5 for fourteen years), however not even close the the capability of my 2015 3500 SRW.

The problem the OP now faces in the 3.42 gears, tall 1st gear in the 68RFE and taller tires. Hope he does not have to start on a steep hill with the TH attached out back. He might be happier switching it over to 4.10's. He started down a slippery slope similar to the bombing slope we were all on with 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen trucks.

Just because it doesn't have as low a gear as the Aisin doesn't make It a problem with the 68. Compared to the 2.45 in your old 47RE it's a huge improvement even though the gen 2's had lower rear gearing- Which is really the Crux of the problem for the 13-18 trucks.

My 2001.5 had 4.10's. It was gear bound at the top not the bottom. OP may be back saying he had to switch to 4.10's like I posted above.

You are contradicting yourself...
On one hand you say your 3.42 are perfect and haul 16k just fine, but the OP may need 4.10's for virtually the same weight?

The first gear really is a non issue. I haul 15k-17k loads on a pretty regular basis.

I do not think so. He has two strikes. Over size tires and taller first and second gear. Plus non HO engine.

HMMMMMM, how much "RAPING" was done to make that nice new car for you wife??? seems the "RESPONSIBLE" thing would have been to fix her Buick.
Depending on age and miles the money to bring an older car up to spec will out cost the value of the car. Had the same decision to make for my wife. 2008 Durango with 210,000 miles. Needed about 3K in repairs/maintenance. The value was only 1.5K so the decision was made for a new one. After much thought we decided on the Subaru Ascent made in the USA with parts from all over the world like most vehicles today. Bonus, the Ascent gets 5 more MPG than the Durango and has half the cylinder count. It also rides 100% better. Love, it what makes a Subaru :D

The ST in the Edge model stands for "Sports Tuned" which is this case is both chassis and the 335 HP 2.7L V6 twin Eco-boost engine. So the ride is not as smooth as the Rainier was, it is however much more planted on the road and goes where every you point it. It is snappy coming out of corners even at lower boost levels. Reminds me a bit like riding an old Yamaha Phazer Snowmobile, which was really fun the twisties. Probably would not be the best car for parts of the country with crumbling roads. Fun factor is why up there for a couple in there later/late 70's(we won't talk about who is the oldest)! Drives a lot like a couple Preludes that we owned and has turbo vroom to boot.

Ron was just pulling my chain BTW!
