I'm fixing to order a Bluebox for my truck, but I'm worried about EGT's when I pull my trailers. I'm not one to just let of the gas and cool it down. I would rather go ahead and fix the problem first. I have two choices. A 14cm wastegated or 16cm nonwastegated. The 16 is ALOT cheaper than the 14. This is a work truck not a hotrod(yet) #ad
Will the 16 be better and will it hurt my in town cruising bad enough to go with the 14? I plan on injectors down the road if the wallet alows. What is everyones opinion or suggestion? Replies would be greatly appreciated since I will probably order today or monday. Thanks in advance.

Well, if you go with the 16cm² housing, you will gain the benefit of lower EGT's. But you will lose low end acceleration, due to slower turbo spool up. If you go with the 14cm² housing, you'll gain lower EGT's and just slighly slower acceleration. The acceleration will be made up with the extra power you are adding. Seems to me your best choice would be the 14cm², it gives you the best of both worlds, plus prevents overboost with the wastegate. Anyone else have any opinions?

BTW, how much power do you plan to add? The 12cm² mad be adequate depending on what you do to the fueling. How much are you going to be towing, too?

Hey Evan. At this point in time all I'm going to do is add a 3wire bluebox set at 50%. I want to see what this will do to the truck and my need for MO POWER! I might add injectors down the road, but like I said earlier it's a work truck more than anything. I sometimes pull up to 20,000lbs. Give or take how many tractors or how fat the cows are #ad
. I dont want to blow a hole in my pistons, so to be on the safe side I was going to a larger housing. Do you think that with a box and injectors later that I would get into an overboost problem? I would have thought not, but I'm not a diesel engineer either. Mark at TST said there is little difference in the turbo lag between a 14 and 16. I wonder how much difference. Something I can live with or a truck that bicycles pass in town? #ad

I have a 16 and it is fine for around town. From what I have learned, you should have a waste gate to keep from overboosting. This can harm the turbo. I imagine the 16 would work on a moderately souped up engine which wouldn't hit the 50 plus boost numbers.

I suggest that if you are this concerned about egt, you should start with the injectors. And I don't mean 275 horse. You will obtain the same amount of power but without the egt the box will supply. Then you can probably skip the turbo replacement, at least till you put the box on. Were I to do it all again, I would purchase the injectors first.

strict , why are you getting the 3 wire blue box when for the same money you can get the 4 wire , or are you buying one his discount special 3 wire boxes ? the 4 wire gives you a boost module , if you don't get a boost module now you need one later and it will cost you more , plus one of the benefits of the larger housing is more boost at a lower drive pressure , but correct me if i'm wrong or just confused .

are you changing the housing on your HX35 or are you going to the HX40 ? i'm under the impression that you won't gain any thing in lowering EGT by going with the bigger housing . but hey maybe i'm wrong , have you changed your exhaust to 4" yet ? that will give you the benifit of lower EGT , if your going to go to the HX40 you'll need a bigger exhaust ... i'm so confused now , hope i haven't confused you too #ad

HVAC the POWERMONSTER! I assume the leading injector people would be DD? Are there any others to choose from? I hadn't really thought about spending that much on injectors, but I guess money is money right? I assumed the boxes would be the better buy for horsepower, but is that not the case then? There is so much out there, and everyone seems to say different things about everything. Gets kinda confusing! I'm gonna buy boost and pyro guages and I already have a fuel pressure guage. I plan on spending about $700 dollars additionally, but I can't figure out which products to buy. Injectors, used three wire Bluebox and 16cm housing, or a combo of other products. DANG this is a tough decision. The DD injectors would come close to wiping out the budget. The box and housing would do about the same. Any suggestions?
Mopar-muscle. The three wire box is used and a bit cheaper than the 4 wire. From what I've heard the 4th wire is there as a boost sensor that will derate fuel under low boost condition, thus no smoke. I LIKE SMOKE!!! The more the better. It would look great coming out my 4" stack!!!!! Yes it gets very confusing. I wish I had an R&D truck and not my daily driver! Boy I could have some fun with it #ad

Strick,
I know a guy here that is a well driller and has a three wire Bluebox (50%) and 4" exhaust on his truck. He pulls heavy loads every day and has never had high egt. He also had to change his clutch after adding the Bluebox, he could spin the clutch with a heavy load. I’m no expert here but I wouldn’t change the turbo at this point in time. Go for the box, injectors and the 4" you’ll like it. I’ve seen him smoke out a intersection when taking off from a red light, and his truck runs.

strict , actually the 4 wire blue box does the same as the 3 wire , except the boost part stops the ECM from derating fuel , it fools the map sensor , you will get smoke , i saw first hand today DD1's in action ... SMOKE ... i want some now ... anyone wanna buy a set of slightly used 275's ???? #ad
