Recently I had the waste gate actuator break and was loosing lots or power and boost causing black smoke and high egts when going up hills. I held the waste gate closed with a pair of vise grips and got all my power back again. Instead of buying a new wastegate actuator, about 168. 00 from Cummins I purchased a 16 CM non waste gate housing and installed it. Truck seemed to run well but lost some boost pressure. EGTs went down and turbo seemed to make some more noise. Yesterday I pulled a trailer ( about 8000 pounds) and now my truck does not pull good on any grade. EGTs went up to 1100 post turbo. Last week I pulled a tractor that weighed more with the same trailer and it pulled great, but that is when I had the 12 CM stock housing on it. I have read that the stock 12 CM housings are good for up to 275 horse power. I only have a number 6 TST Plate in it with a K&N air filter. No other mods besides transmission and torque convertor have been done. Could anyone tell me what is wrong here?
Maybe now I am running out of fuel or something? What would make this pull strong up hills and keep EGT down? I was planning on putting Dynomite stage 3 90 horse injectors and also 3 k governor springs and also upgrading to a numer 4 TST plate. Maybe needs more fuel ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ! Russ
