Yeah its better to have useable power. Mine works OK as long as the turbo is spooled, but if you have to get out of it for some reason on a hill it wont spool before you hit 1300* so you have to slow down or it just gets hot and blows smoke.

I back off at 1200*and try not to run constant at anything more than 1100*. Some say 1300* is fine but why risk a $7000 engine on a $140 pyro by assuming its reading correctly.

Mileage and performance updates

I have been averaging 17 mpg. This is 85% city driving.

I also towed my buddy's patio boat to Trinity Lake Friday. Had a overall average of 16 mpg both ways. This trip consisted of 95% two lane mountainous roads going over three summits. So 16 wasn't too bad.

I don't know how heavy this 24' patio boat was, but it pulled pretty easy. It did have a pretty beefy trailer. I did have to babysit the pyro though. The egt's seem to creep up fast when I tried pulling the hills at 65 in OD (1750 rpms). So I kept the OD off and cruised at 60 (2200 rpms)and the egt's stayed pretty easily below 1100. I think there was a lot of wind resistance adding to the egt issue.

Fuel Mileage update

I just got back from a 1100 mile trip. Went from Eureka to Fresno CA and back. Truck was empty and I had no passengers. My speed averaged between 70-75 mostly, but I did cruise at 80 when traffic would allow.

Overall fuel mileage was 19+. On flat ground w/the cruise on at 70, tach at 2k, the egt's sat right at 600*. Truck ran perfect.

Thanks for the update Dual EE. How do you feel about your timing with these injectors, you think 15. 5 is good? With your auto 16 may be a good number.

Well I have given into HP addiction. Today the 300's were replaced with 370's. The 300's were by no means replaced because I was unhappy with them. The set up was great. I just want to be quicker in the quarter mile.

As a matter of fact the 300's will be put on the shelf in case I am not happy w/the overall performance of the 370's.

Vaughn,

My timing will be advanced to 16-17* soon. The 370's run hotter.

I thought I'd better see if you updated this thread to show that you'd changed to 370's. It was nice meeting you yesterday at Ponci's.

Yeah see how you are Dual EE  LOL

You think those things are gonna run clean enough to be CARB compliant? :-laf

RonA,

It was great meeting you too. Hope to see you at Imler's next month. Boy I could have used that turbo you sold. The pyro moves fast.

Vaughn,

Californians Against Rabid Bugs has contacted me to help them fog for Mosquitos. So yes, the 370's are CARB compliant. I started fogging for them the moment I left Ponci's shop. :-laf

I will be going to the street legal drags tonight to see what improvements the 370's have made.

Thought I'd chime in.

I used to run 370's on a 160 pump. 181dv's, 14cm housing, #4 plate, springs, 16 timing--It was a hoot, but got warm realdamnquick.

As to temps. I'll tow around 1100, but will bury the dang needle for competition. Current setup quits climbing around 1400.

Found a junkyard 215 pump and bought a used B1-2. WAY better now. I'm down to a #8 plate and would like to try a 10.

The difference in a 215 and 160 is VERY difficult to quantify--but it is SUBSTANTIAL.

So I say, enjoy what you have now but know that you've got a couple of big upgrades to look forward to. :D (pump/huffer)

Oh yeah, traction bars make a huge difference. ;)

You're getting as bad as me!! I have a couple of major upgrades to do to go much further than what I am at. Of course since I just got married I need to do some major campaigning to get her into the whole bombing idea. She wasn't real thrilled about me doing my first truck pull two weeks before the wedding. I think you will like the 370's I certainly like mine :D

I guess I need to update my signature. :)

I just tuned a truck that did this very thing. He found a junk yard 215 pump, sent it off to be turned up and balanced for minimal $$$ and added 4k's and a #6 plate. It with a 64/14 single will make 47 psi at 1600+ egt's and will haul butt, needs more boost and water now!
