I had a set of 589's, are now called 58's. Put them on my neighbors 02 and fit fine. I have a set of Ultra 50's now. Both are 16x8 and are 4" to 4" for backspace to frontspace. The tires on his are 265's, mine are 285's. His stick out about 1", mine 1 1/2". We put the Dodge flat mud flats on to save the sides. The question to you would be to ask is, Whats the width and diamiter of the drum verses the disc. I read the front on the 1st Gen is bigger then the 2nd Gen. And theres the rear drum verse disc. Or, you could go down to the local tire shop and check how the rim clears. They need only put lug nut on or up to the rim to hold it so the clearance can be checked. I have done this before. If this is any help, my old truck was a 88 Ford s/d 3/4 ton 4x4 1 Ton rated with the biggest brakes there was for that year truck, the 589's worked fine.
