I have a first gen and can get a deal on some eagle alloys series 058 16x8 wheels. I would like to know if anyone has these or any other 8" wide wheel and if they run into any problems with them. Advice would be much appreciated. Also what do you guys know about Toyo M-55 tires. I'm thinking about getting some 235/85r16 10plys.

If it is the width that is concerning you, I don't see why you would have a problem. Disclaimer: I am a second gen'er so what do I know

I had a set of 589's, are now called 58's. Put them on my neighbors 02 and fit fine. I have a set of Ultra 50's now. Both are 16x8 and are 4" to 4" for backspace to frontspace. The tires on his are 265's, mine are 285's. His stick out about 1", mine 1 1/2". We put the Dodge flat mud flats on to save the sides. The question to you would be to ask is, Whats the width and diamiter of the drum verses the disc. I read the front on the 1st Gen is bigger then the 2nd Gen. And theres the rear drum verse disc. Or, you could go down to the local tire shop and check how the rim clears. They need only put lug nut on or up to the rim to hold it so the clearance can be checked. I have done this before. If this is any help, my old truck was a 88 Ford s/d 3/4 ton 4x4 1 Ton rated with the biggest brakes there was for that year truck, the 589's worked fine.

I don't know about a first gen, but I do know that 265/75/16's will rub in the turns, especially U-turns on a 16x8 second gen. Probably totally not relevant, but I thought I'd:p that out.

Incidentally, I have the rims you speak of and they are really nice.

I had those wheels on a 2nd gen. 98 to be exact. Put on 265-75R16 michelins and even had bfg all terrain with no rubbing.

That's odd Okie- I know of at least two other TDR members who have 265's and have the same slight rub I do. I have AT mud/snow. It isn't a problem, and the runb is only in tight turns where there is some body roll.
