Is that a big difference or what. It used to be 1750 pre and 1150 post, then I added Psycotty air. I wonder why it brought down the post so much more?

When are these readings taken? WOT? with a load? and are sure you mean 1,750 degrees?. That is almost immpossible. Most EGT gauges dont even read that high. (Autometers stop at 1,600). What brand of gauge are you using?

I'm useing SPA guages, so I've got the peak recall feature. The post turbo gauge is an ISSPRO, works fine I think. Cruising, pre 700 to 750, post 550 to 600, just like always. The readings were taken WOT empty from 50 to 110 mph. Fuel pressure is -1 psi at WOT. Truck runs perfect, runs smoother after driven that hard, it just loves it.

WOT = Wide open Throttle

Well your gauge needs to be calibrated. There is no way that your EGT is reaching 1,750 degrees Pre turbo. I floored my 01' going up a hill in 90 degree weather all the way up to 100mph with 2 motorycycles in the back plus ramps, fuel, tools, etc (Figure about 700-800 pounds) the highest my EGT gauge got was 1,300 and that was only for a few seconds. At 1,750 degrees even for a few seconds you would probably have done damage to your pistons not to mention the turbo.

Hes not stock. So that temperture is very well possible. But its also true his gauge could be off. Several 12v trucks see close to 2000° on some short runs and I know HVAC has seen like 1756° on a dragstrip run. A short (keyword short) burst to that temp range will not do any damage. I have ran mine to 1600° racing a couple of people on the highway, may have been higher but like you said the gauge stops at 1600°. Thats just with a "hot" PE, but I have the HY35 (hardline wastegate w/9cm² housing).

I would check the thermocouple for its accuracy just to be sure in this case. But yes it is possible.

Prior to my HX40 and 4" exhaust, EGT's could get close to 1700F.

WARNING: ISSPRO's SUCK!!! I know firsthand - had 'em, ripped 'em out & sent 'em back (luckily DIS has good customer service). Mine read 50F here in Houston last August  . I think they all read low. I could do a WOT run before turning into my neighborhood, and as soon as I got in the driveway and put it in Park, it would should 300F, then proceed to cool down to <250F. PS - the ISSPRO boost gauge rattled too. POS!

OK, flame away, but I feel better and this info comes from experience, not just looks, opinions, etc.

Anyone besides me think his fuel pressure is too low?? I just had my lift pump replaced because it was putting out 0 psi at WOT. Now it puts out 11 psi at WOT.

Steve

fuel pressure definitey low--get that lift pump checked out is my advice...

I've seen 1733* pre turbo-SPA guages during a sled pull and the engine runs fine--chris

Ditto on Kat!

I have seen 1750 for short bursts.

I have also seen 2 year old pistons out of an overfueled truck that hits 2000 in 300 feet, dragging a sled of course.

None the worse for wear!

I may go with a fuel pump and line upgrade. This is my second lift pump, the first one was really bad(8 psi at idle). This one has about 11 to 12 at idle and 7 to 9 cruising at 70. The fuel filter has just been replaced, and I'm out of warrenty( 53,000 miles).

I agree ISSPRO is not the best on the market, I really love my SPA guages. I'm just going to leave the ISSPRO guages in there a little while longer, I wanted to compare pre and post. I think the ISSPRO guages are going to find a home in my tractor, I've always wondered what kind of boost and EGT's that thing is running. It's a Case IH 7130 with the 8. 3 Cummins, cranking out a whooping 170 HP at the pto.

The last time I got it changed it had like 40,000 mile on it. I had to really fight them to change it under warrenty(they wanted over $400 to change it). I finally got them to change it, but they told me the lift pump wasn't under the engine warrenty. It's under some other warrenty that only went to 50,000 miles in Texas. I've got a Holley Blue pump laying around that I might try.

My reason for this post was to show the big difference between post and pre turbo. I used to be a big post guy, now I rather have pre.

Sorry for the tangent - Anyone got a suggestion as to how to test the gage?

Thank You
