Lessee, how did that Flatt & Scruggs tune go--let me tell you a story about a poor mountain Ram named Jed... barely kept his owner thrilled #ad

This poor little old 175 hp 1995 5 speed Ram named Jed [Clampett?] was treated to a ported head for cooling, #5 TST torque plate, 14 cm2 turbine housing, and the magic 370 hp Diamond B marine injectors. We saved it from the doldrums of its earlier high dollar "B brand" uprate plan by putting in a real TST plate, and "real" injectors, but it still has that little exhaust housing.

The Dynojet said 372 hp. Thank you very much. Folks said you couldn't get more than a squeak over 300 hp from the 175-180 hp Rams. Jed's owner doesn't want to put any of the "excess" hp back on the table. Funny thing, no one wants less power.

375 ponies. I just gotta know. What do ya do with 375 ponies?
I just found out last week that a shop in Winsted MN has a dynojet chassis dyno. I might give them a call and throw my truck on the dyno.

With 372 ponies you just do a bit less of the stuff you do with 510 ponies #ad

Such as:

keep up with traffic
develop your own traffic pattern
pass "expeditiously" even when towing
show Powderpuffs who's the real "Boss 359"
make chebby owners cry into their duramaxipads
wear a big grin

Mr. Joe Boy, that's twice you have called me a powderpuff!
Yes, I have a CA 180 turned PA "squeak over 300hp" truck.
And I have found that nothing will run with it where I've driven so far!
Now for the gravy,20-23 mpg consistently, EGTs run 900 post turbo flat out up hill, and it was cheap to get it!
Someday I will have a race truck, but for now I guess I'm stuck being a powderpuff who passes everything on the road while staying cool and getting great mileage!
So, what was Jeds final cost? EGTs?

Huh? Powderpuff=Cowersmoke=powerchoke=drof. I was not criticizing any Cummins Rams. I do however think there are a few who would like to "supplement" their TST power kits with a little more "earnest" fueling via 370 hp injectors. You should be able to find a price in the range of $500-600 (I found a couple sets for a bit less), but availability is still pretty low.

Jed does not yet have the other stuff needed, like gauges or the Superturbo.

OK Joe it doesn't look like I can take it much longer I will e mail you I guess it's time for a clutch then all bets are off!! #ad

Time to get those over valved critters.

Joe,

What is the equivalent plate # in the 96 5 speed 215hp pump version?

------------------
Money Sink - 96, 5 speed, SLT, 4X4, LWB, Ext Cab, ISSPRO pillar, TST 280/685 & AFC housing against the stops, Delvac 1 & Amsiol, Injectors, K&N, Monicas silencer ring removed, Exhaust brake, 4" CAT back & CATless, 4" chrome turn down straight out back, Mag-Hytec, 3:54, 235s, HX35s days are numbered, HX40 here.

The #11 TST is similar to the #5 in that both are designed for around 270-280 hp. However, as I have noted before, it is not good to push the 215 hp plates forward unless you have the Superturbo or egt will climb too much. For max with the 215 pump, get the TST #10. In stock position it will give some egt control at upper rpm with more torque than your #11 pushed forward. Expect some smoke at full power as the engine is not real efficient at such high power.

Joe,
Are the 160 and 175 pump the same? In other words will the 370 injectors work with my pump?

I have the TST #4 and 215 injectors and haven't decided which turbo housing to use. Is the 40 too big for my little wimpy pump? I'm concerned that the 35-16 will kill the bottom end and it's obvious that the 35-12 will allow a major meltdown if I stay on it for more than a few seconds.

Joe, thanks for clearing that up! it sure seemed to me you were directly attacking us poor 300hp Rammers, who still have to make sure their trucks run everyday. Keep up the fun and carry on!

Wait a sec, are you saying I only have as much hp as the ferds? Thats does it! Drugs here a come! Hehe

No. The 5 speed engines usually don't. The problem comes in with the automatic and tight converter that holds the engine in the soft spot around 1100 too long, I guess.

Jed is whimpering for a governor spring kit, Superturbo, and gauges. The gauges should go on soon. BTW, those contemplating the HX40 should talk to Piers about the modifications BD does to make it fit easier.

Joe, I have the 300hp injectors, how much of a difference is there between the two.
Thanks

Big difference, I'd estimate at least 30 more hp depending on application. With mild torque plates, the 300's give 20 hp or so, but with a strong torque plate (#10 TST or more) in a 215, only about 8 hp. They also give a "sag" in the power curve vs. 215 injectors at 1500-1900 with a strong plate. I have not dyno'ed the 370s back to back but they sure feel strong and the Rams that have them put out unprecedented amounts of hp. Not "everyone" needs them but what does need have to do with it? #ad

<font color=blue>I just got back from the Dyno today in Pocotelo(sp) Idaho. She Dyno'd at 342 HP but he was un able to give me a torque reading.
This was a Dyno days of such done by some local Ford diesel group. There was only one PS to out HP me, a 2000 on drugs(propane) 361 HP. I think he was 315 HP before the drugs. I got the better of him, he boiled over right after the drug run. Most of the hotter chipped fords are only getting right around 300 HP.
It was good day all in all I shot in a amtch and then shot some Fords down.
Concidering the altitude(6000 feet) I was really happy with the reading.

Joe is right about moving the torque plates all the way forward on these 215 motors my EGT where running 1350 at the end of the run. I think it time for a bigger Housing but untill then the torque plate is going back about 1/2 way between all the way forward and stock. </font><marquee> #ad

From limited playing with the 160 hp pump I believe the following will happen:
370 injectors will give a tremendous improvement over 160s and a good improvement over 215s
you will probably need delivery valves for smooth acceleration around 1100 rpm
you may want the BD/Piers governor spring kit so it doesn't shut down at 2500 rpm.

My sickly Ram has to run every day too. I keep some of the hp penned up usually. Nowhere to use it around here, but nice to have it, like money in the bank. Still gets the same mpg as stock in town, better on the highways! Take that, gas pigs! #ad
