Alt Guage in the truck pegged last time I was driving it. I figured since it was built by dodge and has a wire attached to it the the problem most likely started and ended there but I was wrong, a volt meter on the battery while running shows 17+ volts. Now driving it this time the guage is jumping around and my alternator tach is intermiten. I was asuming it was the voltage regulator but now that the tach is jumping what else could it be?

Cade, if the tach is jumping, it's most likely the alternator. Like KOG said, something shorted inside.

Had a 65 Chev truck with good gauge. When it continualy over charged it meant battery bad. My Dodge needle is in center or less, but always keeps charged.

Put in a voltage regulator and fixed the 18v problem but the guage and the tach are still jumpin around. Hopefully it is just some rust inside the alternator, it does seem to be getting better. Thanks for the help guys.
