I have a 1996 auto that came stock with 180 hp. After a DTT transmission and a set of gauges I installed #5 TST cam plate which is rated for 270hp in my particular application. I am going to install a set of 215 hp injectors and a 3k gsk. The tst website says that the #5 plate and 215 hp trucks are not recommended. I am assuming that the 215 hp trucks have a different pump so maybe that is why the #5 is not recommended. Will I need a different cam plate with the new injectors and if so what would you suggest? Thanks for helping.

The injectors alone will only bump you up maybe 20hp at the most in a stock 180hp truck. So add only about 20hp ontop of what the #5 will give ya (290ish I guess).

I think your money would be better spent on bigger injectors (370s are a great bang for the buck if ya get a good deal). Prior to installing my 370s I ran 215 injectors with my #10. The combo worked pretty good, mild smoke and good mid-range power. Would I go back to 215s? No I love my 370s despite their drawbacks (smoke smoke and more smoke).

my 96 215 truck came to me with 160 injectors, i didn't think they were much of a issue till i installed a set of new 330s which i don't think would be that much over the stock 215s, i went from a max of 16-17#s of boost to 25-26#s (i just unhooked the wastegate and saw 27#s with a tad quicker spool) these numbers are unloaded driving up the big mississippi river bridge in 5th. i don't know if any of this crap is useful to you or not :D

I think they (TST) is talking about the stock automatic transmissions not handling the extra HP & torque of the plate. If you have a upgraded transmission (DTT) it should handle it ok.

If you are not sure about the upgrade of the transmission, give the people a call who did the work.

crabman :)

Fish on,

Even though you have installed 215 injectors, your plate selection is still determined by a 180hp pump. there are more differences than just the injectors, especially the pump. That being said, i would still recommend the #10 plate , really tunable, works well with the gsk, and more managable egt's. I would also step up to the 370's instead of the 215's. the 180 pump has 181 dv's so you shouldn't have a problem there. You already had the transmission done, and your after a plate, gsk and injectors, so your already sliding down the slippery power slope fast. The 370's will give you a lot of room to grow and they are very streetable once you (i. e. right foot :-laf ) get used to them. my . 02 ;)
