Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 181's or 191's on 160 with 370's?

Is there any big difference? I need to smooth out the low-demand power band.

Engine has 160 pump at 16. 5 timing, #4 plate, 370's, 3K, turbo mods coming.

TIA

181's didn't do much compared to 131's... .

Cut DV's were a huge gain compared to 181's... .

022's were like one step down from the cut DV's... .

All of this was on my 160 pumped truck with 370's, 16. 5_° of timing, etc.

Matt

On edit: I typed "161's" above when I meant "131's"... my bad.

You'll fill in the bottom end a little bit with just about any DV upgrade.

It sure ran good with cut DV's...

19° will give you a nice jump in power, but you're into headgaset warning area with that timing. The older trucks aren't known for particularly good headgaskets... .

On a 1995 160 pump I installed 181's in place of the 131's. It smoothed it out in the low RPMs. The SOP horsepower jump wasn't too noticable, but it did pick up a little boost.

sorry bud, missed ya on that. however, i can take a 1/16" drill bit a drill them out... . sell them as Lazer Drilled? Delivery Valves? instant power, especially with the use of a throttle body spacer before the turbo:rolleyes:

HELP!

I put the 181's in yesterday. Seems to start/idle better, but the stammer at low boost/low R's is still there.

Will 191's fix it? Or do I need to pull the whole damn pump off and take it in?

Good question. I put them in per TST instructions and haven't messed with them yet. I was also thinking about the plate contour. I'm moving it back some more next-to about 1/2 way.

Any more input?

In or out with the gubnor springs?

It's not an idle thing. It's off idle at it's worst after lockup low R's. Smooths out like a baby's behind after 1700, but putting around at 1300-1500 is a rough muther. I demonstrated for Mark today.

With a 5-speed, I'd hardly ever be that low on rev's, but the auto--GRRRR.

timing

I have ran a lot of timing in the 95 that I have before, and it was responsive. However I moved it back to 17. 5 . Never had any problem with a head gasket. Just luck probably. I have heard that this is not good for mileage but that was not the case in my truck. When setting the timing on a 95 be sure to check the cpl number because there is two different settings. lol Jim
