Since I don't have my donor motor as of yet and therefore can't measure the a/c pump... I was wondering. .

Since I'm contemplating fabing a new x-member...

Would relocating the x-member further towards the rear help resolve any of the a/c pump clearance issues? Is there enough room between the rear of the a/c pump to the front of the oil pan sump for such a x-member?

The problem is hat the Ford frame width is a lot less than the Dodge in that area. Then you have the narrow inner fenders which limit putting it up on the side. I see no other choice than moving the compressor up high.

Well it has been a while since updating this project and I thought I would be further along, but all work and no play... . well you know what i mean :-laf

Getting ready to fab some motor mounts and a new cross member. I will be positioning the cross member about where the motor mounts are. Then I will completely remove the factory x-member, this should give me all the room needed for the a/c compressor ;) I will at that point build new frame rails from the factory box section forward. This will solve two or three of my problems.

First... . it will solve the hacked up drivers side frame rail.

Second..... it will add some length to mount the longer superduty springs.

Third... . a/c pump clearance.

Latest pics.....

The answer to this is YES! :D

Worked on fabing the new cross member today. First made a template from wood for a test fit... much lighter than trying to fit a hunk of steel :-laf

Motor mounts... bits and pieces.

Here are a few shots of the early stages of motor mount fabrication... . The plate on the frame rail will also serve as part of the mount for the new x-member.

Just cut away the stock x-member... . This new set up enables me to run the a/c in the stock Dodge/Cummins location. ;)

What a beautiful job you are doing with the fabrication. What are you using to cut the parts out with? I can't wait to see this project continue, very nice work! I had a 68' for 13 years, kind of makes me miss the ol' girl.

Hey thanks!

Using a good 'ol acetylene torch with a straight edge for the cuts and a little grinding wheel touch up for final fitting.

:)

Ok... motor mounts are finished and the new x-member is all welded up. So now it is time to build new frame rails forward out of . 250 wall 6"x2". The main reason for this is to replace the hacked up driverside frame rail (see previous pics) and to gain some length for superduty springs.

Cut off the frame rails.....
