This is the only information I have on the vehicle at this time. I am getting someone to look at it this week but the car is all orginal I am told and in very good condition. I know the 318 is not the most desirable engine in these cars, and the hood is not a shaker, but its a great looking start. I can make my own clone exactly how I want it..... I am thinking I will add a shaker hood, drop in a 340/727 combo. The asking price on the car is $4500 OBO.

Opinions? Ideas? Thoughts?

I posted this new thread so it might get more views then the one "asking" for help in lookin at the car.

Hey Eric,

A co-worker of mine sold a '69 Plymouth Belevedere (same as a Roadrunner) about 1 1/2 years ago. The car was a Texas all original with minimal surface rust, had a 318, auto, air and radio. The mileage was somewhere around 40,000 miles. He sold it for $4000 (I believe) along with a Roadrunner Air Grabber hood. I know this is a different car than the challenger, but, if it's truely all original, I would think somewhere around the $4000 mark would be fair. I really think you'd be better off starting with an original car, like this one, and "customizing" it to what you want, than starting with an already restored car. A restored car will cost more, you never know what's hidding under the paint, and it probably won't be the way you want it.
Good luck, and if I see anything down here in South Texas I'll let ya know.

lets see now
nice challenger
fenders strait no rust... $7-900. 00
quarter panels plus installed... $1800. 00
trunk floor plus installed... $1000. 00
nice 71 grill... . $500-$1000. 00
rally wheels complete... $500. 00
new interior... $1500. 00

I say you cant pay enough for a nice clean original car.
If its as clean as it looks from these few pics, you would be happy with it. It's also not hard to make a 318 scream. More cubes than a 5. 0 All you need now is a R/T hood and a go wing and maybe some 340 badges.
How many people are going to look at your engine compartment of your nice callenger and say "let me look at the numbers to make sure its real" #ad

Stupid question time :

Since it was manufactered Feb. 9,71 does that make it a 71 or a 72 model? Or is this a true 1971 Challenger? Only reaon I ask is the 70 and 71 Challengers are more valuable then the 72 year model?

Can someone enlighten me please?

If you look at the side marker lights and grill it will tell you. In 1972 they started useing those cheesey stick on side markers.
Tail lites are also pretty cool on 71's. In fact 71 MoPaRs in general had all the cool options compared to other years. 71's were built to July 1971

kat , thats a real d4cent deal on that car if its not rotted , scoop it up . speaking of scoop , you may want to rethink the sharker hood thing , they are hard to find and REAL EXPENSIVE , by the time you get all the parts needed , a repop hood alone no bubble is 1400 , you will probably have close to what you pay for the car in the hood .

i'd get the repop R/T hood from goodmark , 500 plus the scoop grilles , and KEEP the air conditioning .

to bad your not closer to me , i have a 340 taking up space in my garage i'm thinking of getting rid of .

as far as the year , its a 71 , NORMAL production run was from september to july , don't confuse what they did back then with the silly crap that happened with the trucks this past year ...

i say buy it .

446 , got those pics thanks .

It looks like a straight car from what we can see it the picture. You really need to look it over to be sure. The '71 Challenger has the nicest grill of all the years.

I would check it out closer.

Mopar-muscle has your engine and I have a pair of original T/A heads [340 6-pak] with the ports so hogged out, you can stick your hand in them. #ad

<font color=blue>I am gonna have someone look at it this week in person for me. Still trying to get ahold of the owner for a 2nd time to ask more questions, and find out if I can put down a deposit to hold the car. The more I think bout the car the more I like it..... Granted I would like it more if it was a 4 speed or a 340 6pak, Hehe but this is a nice looking car... . as far as I can tell. I'll keep y'all updated... .

Mopar - Don't toss that engine out just yet #ad

Kat,I like the looks of the one on Ebay better, you would probably spend the difference fixing the red one up that much, but that's the fun of it. One thing that's great is if the car has spent it's life in Lancaster is that there will be no rust or stop and go traffic miles. The desert roads around Lancaster are well known for 120+ mph speeding tickets.

First off I emailed you bout your mechanic friend and what we discussed? Did you get it?

Well to be honest if that purple one on EBAY was a 4 speed car it would have been mine! I really did like that car, but I didn't like the timeframe to purchase it.

The car I am looking at now is being looked at tommorrow, and if its what the owner says it is then I am definatly buying it. It looks to be a great deal! I am thinking maybe slap a 340/727 in and leave the rest like it is..... and be a lil "sleeper" car!

One thing I would like to do though is install a Ralleye dash that includes a tach.

I would love a 4 speed car, but this car is in too good of condition to pass up at this price.

Is the motor complete? Runable? What would ya like for it??

What would it take to put a 340 in the car with a 6pak setup? Would I need to change the hood, if so how much? (just a thought)<font size=-2>

KD,

I saw on another post that you were looking for a convertable and I think I saw 500. 00 mentioned so I didn't say anything.

A new neighbor has a car very similar to the one above and I believe it is for sale. It looks very nice without dents, rust ect. It appears to be less the motor because it is sitting a bit high in the front.

I don't know Mopar but I walked over and looked at it and will give my best description based on the car in the photo above.

Four round headlights, black grille, two low profile hood scoops with one on each side, red with a red and black hood and a four bar grille about 4"x6" on the fender just forward of the door and above the molding.

Do you need more info?

446,

It is a Barracuda and it's a hard top. Looks like it's setup for a 4spd because the hole in the transmission tunnel is offset towards the drivers knee and looks to large for an auto shifter.

I looked at Autotrader and did not see a car exactly the same. I saw plenty of 69-73's but did not see one with the gills on the fender or a grille that is divided into 6 sections.

KD, if you want to talk to the guy email your phone number and I will give it to him.

Email sent. I don't think I am interested in the car, but a buddy of mine here is.

Hey kat you might want to reconsider. If it has gilled fenders its probably a 71 Cuda and a pretty rare animal.

243 does it look like this with a different hood. I dont need another project but shoot me a price I may change my mind.

Ok so I am interested... . #ad
If not for me, for my buddy here in Omaha (fellow TDR Member).

I am prolly still getting the Challenger just because thats what I like. If it is a 71 Cuda I know my buddy will want it, ecspecially since its a 4 speed car.

Whats the price 243???

I also emailed you my cell number to give to the guy. I am gaining more interest by the minute... ... . hehe.
