Double check the connection to fuel shut off and make sure it's Tight ..or even try removing plunger and seeing if it will run .Process of elimination.

I checked the power on the fuel shut off silinoid and it read 3 volts? So somewhere I'm losing power or its bad. I also keep losing prime on my lift pump

I agree on the jumper wire to the pump watch out on a rag in front of the turbo if the air hose is not on in it it can suck that rag in and take the turbo out ,if you use either you might want to disconnect the grid heater

Your lift pump could be bad , if you had a spare electric pump you could hook it up and just run strait to a can of fuel and see what that does

I retested my connection to my fuel shut off silinoid and it read 12v properly this time, I disconnected the grid heater and had a buddy spray ether into the turbo and it acted like it wanted to start and did for a few seconds about 3 turns but would die shortly after I went to O'Rileys and ordered a new fuel lift pump so hopefully that will fix my issue.

The one thing you might want to do and it could also very well be the issue to is the quick conects at the return and supply lines because of engine movement get some approved fuel line and cut off the quick connects and a nipple for the fuel line ,slip the hose ovrr the plastic line and double clamp that ,those o rings go bad and are not easy to replace this trick works and its fast and cheap

We got the fuel lift pump replaced, and got the truck started for about 5 seconds with ether but after I released the throttle it died and we haven't been able to get it to fire again. Any other ideas or clues on what it might be?

Did you crack the injectors you need to remove the air from the system ,when you took the lines off air entered the system

Yes sir we did that several times that's how we got it to start the one time - I really appreciate your help, you've been answering a lot of my questions!

My guess , you have a massive amount of air ,or if you did not do any thing to those quick connects that could be your issue . Id try to do one of the following either hook a hose to the lift pump to a can of fuel and re bleedand try firing it up or you can go right to the injector pump to a fuel can and try that ,are you pre filling the fuel filter ? Also are you using the bleed screw on the the maifold the book will show this screw but you must crack at least one injector

If the engine won't continue to run while spraying in ether, you may have a plugged exhaust. This could explain why the engine won't keep running and it could also explain why the engine won't restart right away with ether. If the exhaust cannot exit the combustion chambers, then air cannot enter as well, consequently - no combustion. I believe you mentioned on your original post that this truck had been rear ended.

A quick test would be to separate the exhaust pipe from the engine just after the turbo. If the engine fires up and continues to run, you have found your problem.

You can crawl under the assenger side of the truck to check the exhaust it sounds lukje a fuel issue and you could have a pinched fuel line , id try the fuel can trick and see what that does

The fuel sylinoid if you want for testing can be removed or as suggested try the jumper wire from the batt to the pump , if you remove it there is a manual shut off on the pump and if your worried that lever wont work pull the intake hose off going to the turbo and have a 2x6 handy to cut the air supply off to kill it , Also which brings up anouther question have you pulled a part the air cleaner to make sure it is not full of crap ???
