Thank you for your help, I am new to this site and diesels in general. My work truck began leaking coolant between the head and block behind the thermostat housing. A local shop says this is common. I've replaced many heads on various engines. Head gaskets are plentiful and all manufacturer's recommend replacing the head bolts, however I have not found a source for these bolts for this particular engine. I would appreciate any recommendations for head gasket and the bolts. I have tried searching using the words head gasket and bolts, but no results found.

Contact your local Cummins Distributor. While it is common for the head gasket to leak there because of age it is not necessary to change the head bolts. David

If you buy a genuine Cummins head gasket kit it will come with a gauge to measure the old bolts. If they are not stretched beyond limits they are reusable. If you find them stretched you can source them from Cummins. I suggest you sign up with Cummins Quickserve. It is free, and will allow you to look up all your engine part numbers. You will need the engine serial number, found on the engine data plate. On a 2nd gen the data plate is mounted on the drivers side of the front gear case. I don't know if 1st gens are the same. https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html
