Erik you don't need a thread. Its so simple and painless.

Open your door there is a single screw behind the mirror on the inside of the door panel. Remove that screw and pry back on the door panel enough to stuff a rag in there to catch the small nuts incase they fall.

Loosen the 3 10mm nuts and remove each mirror. Then install new mirrors with supplied support backing plates.

Should take approx. 20-30 minutes a side! Oo.

They look so much better than the dinky little mirrors. :-laf

Hey, thanks for the info. .

My chrome mirrors are power now, are these newer mirrors power too? They telescope out but that is manually done correct? Are the plugs the same?

Also, what year do i have to get the mirrors off since im sure they are very expensive from the dealer!

Thanks

The 2nd Gen towing mirrors are completely manual, no power options. You can combine the heads of the 3rd Gen Power/Heated towing mirrors with the mounting bodies of the 2nd Gen manual mirrors, but its an expensive option.

I think they introducted the mirrors in 2000? Maybe it was 2001? If you do a search on here there are a couple of websites listed to get them from as well as the dealer. They go for just a touch over $200 as the complete "kit"

Darn that sucks, now im gonna have to adjust the glass by hand. lol I looked at tenefly dodge and it looks around 150 for the setup, not bad...

Thanks

Make sure you get the complete "KIT" that comes with the steel support backing plates for inside the door.

What about taking the guts out of the power chrome mirrors and putting them in the maual tow mirrors to make them power with out having to buy the 3rd gen set? maybe a money saver. I haven't done this but am wondering if it would work?

Glass size is different but that is not a problem, I was thinking of removing the chrome glass and attaching the tow mirror glass to the motor assembly during the conversion?

And also not the folding trailer tow mirrors if you're looking at P/N's 55076478AC & 55076479AC - these numbers are just the regular black mirrors seen model years 2000?-2002 in a non-powered version.

Here are the numbers for the Trailer Tow mirrors if purchased individually:

P/N 55156334AA Right

P/N 55156335AA Left

If the Trailer Tow mirrors are purchased individually you pay way more than if you buy the kit, P/N 822061570.

Hey! I asked about switching the power servo motor into the towing mirrors and no-one would even talk to me about it. :) The mirrors Vibrate without the steel backing plate that comes in the kits. Thats something else, $150 sounds a little fishy. Everyone else is scoring them from between $200-$250 dealer cost, and you can't actually get them aftermarktet $150 would be sweet though. My only question now is whether to leave the mirrors turned up or turned down.

They usually don't vibrate unless you are MOVING on down the road! ;) :-laf

They are actually pretty stable in the up position, but they do catch a lot more wind resistance. Whenever I travel on the interstate I keep mine down, but then again I like to run about 75-80mph! :D

However around town I keep 'em up or down, personal preference. You'll probably be like me if you get them, if you have to manually set the glass to have them up for a trailer then you will leave them like that for a couple of weeks! LoL

I had to haul my old truck about 3-4 weeks ago now, and I still haven't put my mirrors back down! :-laf

Eric;

Sent you a PM. I have located a web sit that maybe able to give suggestions on removal of the motor. just a thought.

Marv.

I said that about the vibration because someone asked and i have heard/ read about guys pulling them from hit trucks and not switching the backing plates. And yeah. . You have to be really moving to make them vibrate much otherwise. Really moving... :)

I asked the G/F about how much the mirrors were and she told me $219 for the mopar kit.
