1996 Infinity speaker

Hello folks,
as i am now starting to divert my restoration attention to the interior, i started putting the door harness's speakers, glass and hardware back in.

upon radio power up, i found both my 6x9 front door speakers are working but rough sounding. no doubt from years of rusted out doors allowing water salt dirt, etc into the speaker mounted amps.


i cant find original 1996 speakers, but did find later 2nd gen infinity 6x9's. (free)

look similar,

but have 10 wires instead of 4 as found on my 96.
so my question is this; Does anyone have speaker/radio pinout schematic for the 10 wire style infinty amp speakers?
Im thinkng they might be from a 2000/2001 truck.

Im hoping to find the correct wires to connect to my 4 wire speaker harness.


Now I know everyone is going to tell me how crappy the infinity speakers are, but I have be happy from day one with the radio/speakers and cant afford to invest $400-$500+ into a entire new sound system.

yes, i did see that listing; they dont show the backside, so i passed them up at $260 a pair

to be honest, I'm unsure what year truck they came from. I was told late model 2nd gen.
i actually received another speaker (only 1 pc) that used an 8 wire connector, go figure.

i just cant seem to find a schematic of any of the amps(infinity). If I could, I could most likely repair the amp. I read that it is almost always just solder corrosion issues.

As a side note, if you want to replace the speaker only without the amp. Back in these Days Infinity used 2.5 Ohm Speakers, pretty unique setup. I used 2 Ohm when I replaced the ones in my GC.
Standard 4 Ohm sounded lame then.

yes, thanks, i have found some references to that impedance note as well...
such a shame this has to be so difficult. i really don't mind changing the speakers to stock, (no amp) but even that is complicated by the fact of the ohm (impedance) value of the compatible speakers...and, the fact that most new speaker don't even list the impedance anymore. I cant seem to find a reference to what ohm value a stock radio without infinity speaker requires.

Crutchfield customer service is great, but they of course, are trying to sell me cpmpletely new stereo, boom boom amp and blow you brains out speakers.

i just want basic, smooth sounding sound system like when truck was new.
why they think everyone wants to melt concrete with sound is beyond me.

i just confirmed from the truck owner i got the 10 pin speakers from that they are from a 2000 ram.

does anyone here have a 2000 factory service manual which should show the speaker connector pinout & front door speaker harness wire colors?

thanks big papa, not a match; i wonder if the truck was a 99 or 2001 but built/vin as a 2000...?
i don't have access to the alldata site, looks like maybe you do.
any chance you could look at those years to check the connector?

Like I said in post #6, that's the one it shows for all 2nd Gens. However, I've found that just because AllData shows it doesn't mean it's gospel.

yes, i found 3 speaker connector variations so far, all from 2nd gen trucks.

Get the VIN and pull the build sheet online so you know the full details.

truck the late 2nd speakers came from is long gone so no vin.

as a follow up, so far, i have not found any info, but, i determined thru testing and experimentation that my original infinty amps are just fine. It is the speakers themselves that are bad.

the voice coil corroded (yes corroded!, they are copper wire.) Water in the open bottom rusted out doors for too long got into the speakers.

For the time being, i took the amps off the original speakers and fabricated custom mounting hardware for installation on a set of aftermarket speakers a friend gave me.

they work fine, and i just received my plastic adaptor mounts from crutchfield, so i can use the round aftermarket speakers in the oem door mount area without modifying the door.
i checked the impedance on the original oem speakers, 3.6 ohms.
aftermarket speaker are 4 ohm so pretty close match.
