Yep, but for me, this was an easy swap. I needed my truck running, and even our local Cummins guru, a friend of mine, wouldn't take the job. I had a 12 valve in a F350 2 years ago, and the VE with 3.55 gears got me 20-22 MPG. Easy to tune, and ran great. We'll see how this one does. Only bad part, is losing the Edge controller. That push button power was great. I'm hoping to pick up 3-4 mpg with the VE, and I'm running the 24 valve injectors.

Mark P, visualizing your setup makes my brain hurt. But if it works, it's good. Out of weird curiosity, have you plugged in a scanner to find out what is making the CEL unhappy? Or are you leaving well-enough alone?

Edit: I got rid of return line pinholes and connection leaks by just bypassing it. I run a 5/16 inch ID fuel hose from the pump return straight to the tank. Though in my case, it's a P pump.

My setup looks like a 12 valve with a one piece valve cover. Otherwise, no difference.

He has a CEL because there's no VP44. I imagine he'll have to live with it as I did when I put the 12-valve in the '98.5. I just pulled the bulb and drove on.

Yep… that’s why it’s on and I’ll do the same. I didn’t remember if it could be removed, or if it was soldered in. Either way, it’ll come out.
