I need to replace the motor mounts on the 1996 in my signature... Does cummins stock this item? Some say yes, some say no. . Any definate answer?

also, does anyone sell aftermarket urathane motor mounts?

Erik

I had a good clunk in the front and can feel it while driving. I had my cousin back the truck up and could see the motor do a good shake. The driver side mount is shot it seems so i just want to replace both

Hey, who made the carquest mount?

Erik

Since we're on this subject of replacing the motor mounts, how hard is it to replace them? Obviously, you have to support the engine somehow, but do you have to loosen the transmission bolts or anything? Any basic advice and/or instructions would be great, thanks!

Joe

When I changed them I just hooked up our cherry picker to the engine and lifted it just enough to make the swap.

Car Quest # was Mou 31-3586. I assume Mou was Mount... ... ...

Did you have to loosen the transmission bolts at all or just loosened the motor mount bolts and slightly lifted it up?

No there was enough give to pick up the front of the engine just enough to get the tension off the mounts. I didn't loosen them because I didn't want the engine to start moving forward or backward on me thus making it harder to align the bolt holes back up.

So you just hooked the cherry picker up to the factory engine hangers, loosened and removed the engine mounting bolts, jacked the engine up a bit and replaced the mounts? The mounts can be pulled out from the top of the mounting bracket correct?

I picked up the engine from the front loop, took some of the strain off then unbolted (2 bolts) the bracket from the block then unbolted the mount from the frame and then took the whole assembly out as one piece then reversed the process. I might add that this was in my sons '90 and we had the core support out for other reasons, so there was a little more access for us. It still look like it can be done that way even with everything else in the way, at least on his truck... ... ... ...

Ok, I see, I would hav never thought to just unbolt the bracker and the mount from the engine. That would make things a whole lot easier removing the whole assembly. ThanksOo.

Right! The two bolts on the mount are about 1 1/4" long and if you tried to just take the mount out of there you would really have to raise the engine up quite a ways to clear everything;)
