My neighbor has a 1996 Dodge 2500 with 5 speed transmission. Having just acquired this truck he is attempting to drain the fluids from said trans and transfer case. However the drain plugs on both units is some crazy STAR, TORX or maybe even metric (?). Anybody out there have an idea or part number for that socket or wrench? Definitly not an ALLEN head! Thanks.

It has been some time since I had a NV4500, but I drained mine by removing a lower PTO cover bolt IIRC. I might have removed the cover completely.

Also, do yourself a favor and get you a pump made for changing lower unit grease in a boat. They should have them at Walmart. It will screw onto the gear oil bottle and have a hose on it. The one I bought had an adapter on the end of the hose that screwed right into one of the PTO cover bolt holes.

Not grease. Lower units don't use grease. They use gear lube.................sorry, don't mean to be rude but boats are what I make my living at and when people call gear lube "grease" it yanks my chain. :-laf

it uses a 3/8 square drive

Duh, it does indeed require a 3/8" square drive! Once I got under the truck it was obvious. Don't know what he was looking at? Anyhow, thanks for all the feedback on a silly little drain plug. Neighbor has a new handle now, " Square Drive". Thanks. Rekabeka
