1st gear stuck

2012 ram 3500 , wouldn’t shift out of 1st gear .after driving 30 miles on interstate .at stop sign end of off ramp. Turning onto secondary road it didn’t shift past 1st gear .. pulled off to the side tried shifterby paddle shifter still not going past 1st gear . Turned off engine and back on put into d and all ok.. any thought why?? Thanks

No it all seems fine after restarting.

Was the shift indicator PRNDL "boxed" out? Should be stored codes to see what happened.

Did the cluster display show "1"? If so, then the ERS switch was pressed or tapped (or stuck) while at a stop, which put you in the 1st gear limit. I know you said you tried to upshift it manually (with no help). But if the display showed "1" rather than "D", you were in ERS "1" mode. So if you couldn't tap it up manually. then my guess would be maybe a bad switch (in the shift lever) that got stuck in the "-" position. Bottom line: Probably not a trans issue, but rather an ERS switch problem.

She says she didn’t see 1 . She pulled and now she says she did not turn it off she was able to go through gears using paddle shifter.then when she seen d she took off all ok .. that is her new story and she is sticking with it.. lol . Thanks for the replies so for

OK, then likely she just accidentally tapped the ERS "-" switch when she was at the stop sign. That would have put the trans in "1", but then she could tap it back up to 2, 3, etc. and eventually to D and then be OK. So probably just an accidental tap of the switch.
