Hey Deo, if that NV4500 comes up for sale at some point, I'd certainly be interested. Not sure how long the Getrash is gonna hold out...

Its not just this website. Any time you talk about changing out parts the vultures start to circle. :-laf

True that...

Except in rare cases like with Philip where I posted that I bent my turbine blades on my turbo while trying to do a housing swap for the first time, and he chimed in to sell me his extra baby H1C for a great deal. Thanks, anti-vulture... Oo.

Now,,, Back to the subject. Where were we. G56 Trans swap anyone? ;)

Latest update:

As stated before the rear mount has been giving some problems ( see post # 78 above ). My buddy has a thicker ( + 3/4" ) rad in his truck. He has an 18,000 lb winch mounted up front and that blocks too much air. When the engine gets torqued the rear mount is allowing the engine to shift and the fan is hitting the rad in the 2 o'clock to 8 o'clock position. He had to pull it on the weekend and put back in the stock one. It winter ( -25*F right now ) so no overheating problems at the moment. With the stock rad this wouldn't be a problem. We will have to come up with a mount with a harder rubber. He has about 10-12000 kms ( 7000 miles ) on it now. Shadrach

Actually . . my G56 swap has taken a new turn. The G56 is going in my 2000 Excursion. I have already removed and sold / Traded the NV4500. I have test fit the G56 with a 2nd gen engine adapter and the 2nd gen starter on a extra engine in my garage. All fits well. I was nervous as south bend said the FE clutch was set up for a first gen engine adapter and first gen starter?... I'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks

Deo

transmission is working good. No new problems, although he did have to rebuild the rear end again #@$%! as one of the side bearings turned in the housing, damaging it. A brand new Spicer 3. 54 gear set and Timken bearings were ordered and installed into a "new" housing. Lesson learned " ALWAYS " use good quality parts when rebuilding you truck or you will pay for it later. He is running a late 70's style cab and chassis rear axle as it has bigger pinion bearings. It took a little bit of looking but we managed to find a good used axle assy. Shadrach

Thought I would bump this back to the top and add a little info for the auto guy's.

Overall length G56 31. 5" G360 27. 5"
518 auto 32. 750"

I will be doing a G56 swap in the not to distant future. I just need to pickup hydro's and a engine adapter.

I also got a SBC OFE clutch and flywheel with the G56. The SBC flywheel has the same ring gear spacing as the auto flex plate does. So that means a 2nd gen engine adapter without the spacer being used on the starter that a NV4500 uses.
