From a technical standpoint I can't say for sure, but from a practical standpoint, the only real difference I've noticed between a 250 and a 350 (other than the number of wheels and the hubs) is one or two leafs in the spring pack and a badge. I'm 99. 9% sure the frames are identical. There may have been a heavier-duty D70 for the 350's.
Yes they did. There's been plenty on here. Some members have them, seen them for sale on ebay, I guess park ranger/forest trucks, and phone company rigs came equipped this way.
A good friend of mine has a 1989 W350 with only four wheels from the factory, so yes they were available. They had a GVWR of 8900, and my 1990 W250 was rated for 8610. With only a 290 pound difference in payload it's no wonder Dodge didn't sell alot of them. His truck has a gas powered 360ci, so I can't tell you if any were made with the CTD. Also, I believe the rear brakes are larger than the W250 counterpart (. 25 inch wider).
yep... seen some up here in british columbia a few times. a favourite with some of the loggers as lots of them have bush boxes on them. a few large contractors seem to have some kickin' around as service trucks.
here's an old one on ebay with a ctd and a service box...
I don't know about the diesel years, but my '83 crew cab shortbed 4x4 is a W350. Kinda wish it was a W250 cause the insurance would have been a whole lot cheaper. :{
... ... ... ..... 4500lb front axle... ..... 4500lb front axle
Both trucks are standard cab with a Getrag and 205 t-case
As you can see, the only real differences are the tire load range, the numbers on the door jamb sticker and the fender emblems. Neither truck was equipped with factory overload springs.
I also had to buy every combination of brakes and drums and use what fit... which was the drums with the extruded cebters and the largest wheel cylinders and shoes.
None of which matched the listings for a D250.
But I drive around with an empty bed 99% of the time so who cares...
My 350 has single rear wheels 91 and I found out when changing axles that it had a D 70 from the factory much lighter duty than the dually. So when I changed the axle I put in the Dana 80 dually from a 95 with no problems. Seems I was overworking the 70 and developed some noise. R C Oo.
I almost traded Mom's 92 (back in the day) for a 93 W350 SRW. Think it had overloads. Reg cab, 3. 54 gears. Didnt get into the GVWRs or anything like that. Had a Getrag, but they were too proud of that 0 to start the odometer reading for my taste. Mine will have 300K by the end of the month, and it is getting so fewer and fewer parts are original. AFter a pump rebuild, I will cross the $6K mark for what I have in it. That includes BUYING it.
My '92 is factory singles,4000lbs front,6084lbs rear,8700gross. No overloads. It came w/2. 5 width shoes on the rear,but we changed to 3" at the first brake job. My cousin,(he was first owner) didn't like the way it stopped. He bought it thru a truck broker. Telephone company or whoever ordered trucks,and his was tacked on.
