SALE!! Valvoline Premium Blue $13.99 Galllon

Antifreeze for 2004.5

Howdy ya'll. I am a TDR and Dodge Diesel newbie and am very glad I found this site. I am getting ready for my first trip to the dealer for service and wondering what kind of oil to get. What does Cummins recommend? Can I take my own oil to the dealer? What do the TDR old timers recommend. Thanks

I would let the dealer change the first time for you after that change it your self.

The reason I say let the dealer do it the first time is the engine is sprayed with a clear coating of some type to protect it in storage and shipment. The oil filter is very difficult to break loose from the engine with this applied.

So let the dealer do it for you.

When you start to change your own oil, buy Fleetguard filters part number LF16035. This is the top of the line filter for Fleetguard for our trucks, if this is a 07. 5 and up truck?

I would then use Royal Purple 15W-40 diesel oil or Mobil Devaco 1300 15W-40 diesel oil, 3 gallons are required for an oil change.

I would also buy a Finger touch oil drain valve to make changing easer. Both the filters and finger touch valves can be bought from Geno's Garage.

One more item you may want to do is purchase an oil change sampling bottle to take an oil sample for a oil analysis. This is done every time you do a oil change to see if abnormal wear is occurring with your engine. The first sample is a base line then the others will track how your engine is doing.

Hey Jim. Thanks for the reply. I fixed my sig so u can see that I have a 08 CTD. Thanks for the oil info. I am all for doing my own oil change and service but I would like to know how does Dodge or Cummins know that it has been done at correct intervals and properly in case there is a warranty question. I have the extended warranty that I do no want to jeopardize.

Well wonder what I did wrong. My truck info is not showing up?

When you edit your signature did you save it? Try again it may work this time?

As for your other question on how would Dodge and Cummins know if you maintain your engine? I would keep all of your receipts and log in the mileage in the owners manual. I would also do the oil sampling at every oil change. On the oil sampling form you fill in the date of the oil change and mileage. The lab will send back the results with the date showing and the mileage recorded on the report. By have a series of reports showing the dates and mileage in order that they were done, Dodge will have to accept them as evidence as the work was done.

One more thing to remember it is very important to change your fuel filter at 15K intervals or sooner. Dodge is watching this very closely.

At Cummins where the engine is made they put Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40. I change ALL filters at oil change!
