I need a 2-15/16" or a 75mm 8pt socket. I can not find a mfg. for this size. It is to remove a lug nut for a spline style wheel, similar to the lug nut used on a F1 racecar.

A railroad style (double box) socket will not fit.

OTC makes a 2-7/8" 8pt which is too small and the 3" is too big, they do not make a 2-15/16".

Where to look?

Could any one custom machine this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Trust me, it is an 8pt.

What I am doing now is taking the 3" socket and lining the inside with a piece of bent up . 032" aircraft Al. When both sides are together, I create . 064" or a 1/16" additional difference which gives me 2 15/16", but I need a more perminant solution.

What is the exact application, If it's a British car, you're looking in the wrong place. A friend had a MGB with special Knock-off wheels and this socket was a BEAR to locate. Memory fails as to where he located it, it was Whitworth!

The exact application is a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa. The wheel lug nut is the exact same as what Ferrari uses on all their F1 race cars

Is it the same style as what's on the new Viper I saw at a car show a couple of months ago? It only had 1 lug nut also. Can't remember how many sides were on it.

Proto used to carry a line of big 8-points up to 5", not sure now that they've merged with Stanley. They're for the square nuts used to put steel electrical transmission lines together and are under lineman tools in their catalog. They also sell a hydraulically powered "impact" wrench to go with them. I needed a similar one once and ended up just making it out of flat stock, welded an old socket on top for the drive.
