The world used 83. 7 million barrels last year. That figure is up 1. 8 million barrels from the prior year.

As the Chinese say, may you live in interesting times!

Funy how the Europeans have been on sulfur free Diesel for 5 years now. I guess the oil companies just can't aford it here

I have read there is a new process that will get the sulfur down to less than 5 ppm very cheaply and should be available to the companies by 06. But you know how roommers go.....

Seems like here in CA they jack up the price of diesel faster than the price of gas. That way they can keep the citizenry happy, while the truckers who probably use a large portion of the fuel have no alternative.

Diesel fuel generally carries a lot more road taxes than gasoline. The tax rate varies from state to state. That is why the folks at TDR post them in our magazine.

I have an 05 Jetta TDI and my wife has an 05 Passat TDI. Last month we left our diesel pusher in Chama, NM for the summer and came home in the Jetta(our tow car). I filled up in Santa Fe, NM and drove home(20 miles south of Fort Worth). Took on 15. 6 gallons. (635 miles). The little car was loaded down, running 75 to 80 with the A/C on and is still not broken in.

My wife's Passat is incredible. Electronicly goverened at 128 mph. Very comfortable and will still get in the high 30s to low 40s on the highway.

Now if I could just find a diesel Sunbeam blender... ... ... ... ... ... . :-laf

Cheap fuel

Recently spoke with an Alternative Fuels instructor. He claims that he has seen reports that the oil fields in the Middle East have already peaked their production. If this is true then they are now in the process of beginning to run out. Many professionals, people in the know about the oil industry claim that at the current rate ( and we know that the world uses more oil every year ) of use, we only have a 50 - 75 yr. supply of oil remaining on the planet. I will be dead, but you youngsters will be around to see it.

Sad to say, the days of cheap fuel oil are long gone. Don't be surprised if

$ 3. 00 gallon for reg. fuel becomes the norm and diesel fuel will be priced the same as premium gasoline. It was also explained to me, that most of our gasoline used in the USA comes from Europe as they use more diesel than us and ship their excess gasoline to the states. I found this interesting and I have been in the automotive industry for 37 yrs. Really makes you think!!

Barry, RIGHT ON ! My second TDI (05 Passat Wagon) is set to be picked up next month down in PA AFTER the dealer puts 7000 miles on it as a demo! The AH politics of NY has these NEW cars outlawed here UNLESS you have 7500 miles on the new car! **BUT** I can buy all the New Diesel super cab (passenger?) pickups i want !

I hate to say it, But with the mind set and politics what they are, we get what we deserve.

I just drove down from Alaska to Kansas and diesel is cheaper than gas in Canada than gas but in the USA its above gas. Back last winter I tanked up with about 650 gallons of diesel, I still have about 300 left. Its going to kill me when I have to refill them bulk tanks.

I'll be driving back up to Alaska end of August (company trip). Be interesting to see how much it costs then. Though this time I'm giong to skip the mom and pop fuel stops. I got bad fuel at one that plagued me for 2000 miles to clean out the system. I try to support the little guy.

Diesel $ 3.90 gallon

Just came home from a mini camping trip with my family. We stayed at a campground in Corinth, NY 20 miles south from Lake George. We saw stations selling diesel for $ 3. 90 per gallon and regular gasoline as high as

$ 4. 00 per gallon. It is something to watch as the stations immediately raise the price of fuel even when they are operating off of their older shipment! Guess that is the way to do business. Fuel went up a $ 1. 00 plus per gallon within 24 hours!! Watch what happens to our economy now! :--)

I just payed $3. 26 here in california. you would think that with diesel being a by-product of gas. for every barrel of crude you get eight gallons of diesel.
