2" levelling kit

Hello again

I would like to know opinions on the Skyjacker, or other, 2" "levelling" kits, as far as the ride quality, stiffness, etc.
Would the longer shocks be needed with these kits as well?
Was considering airbags in the rear, as truck is empty most of the time.

I've been studying the 2" lift market for some time now and have settled on the Trailmaster kit - (part# DT58SSV, I think)for my '99 2500HD LB 4x4.

Part of my decision was based on the proximity of the dealer/installer to my place - (still about 100mi. , but for our country that's "close"). Also, this dealer has sold and installed a large number of lift kits of all types and name brands, and he swears by the Trailmaster for consistency of product quality and ease of installation.
Plus, he's had the Trailmaster 2" kit on his pickup for 60,000 mi. ,likes the ride, occasionally pulls significant weight and no problems with that, either.

I talked with the Skyjacker folks several times and I think the Skyjacker 2" kit is a good one as well - but quite frankly I'm not mechanical enough to properly address the engineering differences between the two.

They both come with proprietary shocks - most of the members of this board seem to prefer the Rancho 9000, but personally I don't like (or need, as I'm empty most of the time)the idea of the adjustable feature as we drive in a lot of snow/ice/slush etc. which packs in and then freezes solid at night.

Zeeew,

Pls research the lift kit carefully. A co-worker ate a steering box with a 2" lift kit. They are expensive!

Find someone that has the same kit for >30k miles & get the scoop.

When I put changed tires on my 94 Dodge, I was getting vague steering. It was percieved as play in the steering box. Real tough to pin down what it was. The Dodge dealer thought it probably was the steering box. Quoted me 800 something for a new one

They have remanufactured steering gear chucks for all Chrysler(only ,they specialize) products. They say the units meet or exceed factory specs. Also they say that the boxes are every bit as dependable as a new unit-at a better price.

The Dodge boxes 94-99 are $195. 00 with exchange. Not available in quick ratio (darn)

I was very happy with their service. The box was great too. Very tight.

I saved my self tons of money purchasing it from Steer & Gear. #ad

I have had a Rancho 2" lift kit for almost 2 years. 20,000 miles and not a bit of trouble. The Rancho kit contains front spring spacers to take the natural sag you get from the heavy Cummins engine(960lbs. ). I like mine and it gave the needed lift for my oversize tires. Ofcourse I still had to have metal trimmed from the inner wheel well. Had the body shop do it, took them 2 hrs. and you can't even tell.

I have tinkered with 4x4's for years and have several friends w/ 4x4's as well. I live within 30 min. of the Heckethorn/Rough Country factory. I was things I was wondering about:
1. Price (H/RC's is about $300 I think)
2. Ride (H/RC's keeps factory ride)
3. Do you have to replace your shocks? (I can't remember whether or not you do w/ H/RC's kit, I'll check.
Also, H/RC sells factory shocks w/ boots for $30 and steering stabilizers for $40 for almost every brand and size truck. If you want more inf, post back or e-mail me at:

I have had the 2" Skyjacker lift for 7 years now on my 92. It rides much better that stock by actually having decent wheel travel. The shocks I got are also from Skyjacker (gas shocks) and are longer than stock. I have approx. 65,000 miles on this suspension and it does not feel any different that when new.
