How many are using one or going to use one and think it should be a D. C. issue or a owners issue? I'm on the fence about this.

no, your right about this it should come standard. there have been several bosch write ups on this, even brady @ II posted one i belive. i run the 2 micron filter, along with many other customers

I would definetly like to see flow rates on a 2 micron before using with a stock system, not everyone wants to modify there $40,000 trucks.

2 micron or lower filtration should be stock and manditory from the factory.

To me it is almost criminal that a 2mic filter is not oem. If I am not mistaken GM went to a 2 or 3 mic filter and the injector problems on the D-Max seem to have gone away. If you talk to people that deal with injectors (II, Dodges own diesel techs) they seem to see all kinds of injector problems. Either they need better filtration or Bosch is serving up junk (I have heard both opinions).

I posted this situation back in Oct. 2005 . Went to Sema show and talked to Reps at the Bosch Booth. They said they told Dodge to use a 2 micron filter but they wouldn't do it. We know why, they would have to upgrade the fuel pump to a real one.

I will be installing mine very soon. Another member that is a local guy did some researching the other day and found a drop in filter for our factory canisters that are 5 micron. I am probably going to run it in the factory housing and run the 2 micron filter after that.

I've got the GDP 2-micron and am running the 7-micron in the stock canister. I agree that DC should have put them in as stock equipment. I would like to see a formal posting by Bosch, or any written info from Bosch that clearly defines their spec to DC. It would be ground to stand on if we had any warranty issues with DC regarding the addition of the 2-micron filter setups. I see this addition as preventative to the injector problems and the 'dirty fuel' argument coming from the dealers regarding our warranties on injectors. The burden of proof about the aftermarket filter is on DC as they do have to prove that these cause the problems to void a warranty. Honestly, too much hassle for them and us, but it could be a hassle none-the-less if they continue to be pig-headded towards buyers with real problems that they caused by not following Bosch's specs. If the additional filtration puts stress on the tank supply pump and it dies, then once again they have shown their ineptitude regarding a quality delivery pump. If the final pump to the rail dies as a result of the tank supply pump, then as I see it, their poor design 'caused' the failure and I am prepared to do the dance with them at a legal level. Right now we are in a buyer beware situation, but I can see where it could become a seller beware if they don't step up to the plate and fix the problems with a recall. It is all thier error and should be their responsibility to fess up and take care of the owners. If I have problems with the tank supply pump and have to get it fixed under warranty, I will then go straight to the addition of the Walbro pump to protect the final pump from damage due to low pressure.

Does anyone have ANY documentation from Bosch that states that the fuel system in our trucks needs a 2 micron filtration capability? I for one would love to have a copy so that i can feel confident about installing a GDP 2 micron kit on my truck. If a problem came up, at least it's a paper that you can wave and say "See? Fuel system manufacturer states we need this... ". If someone has this information, please make it readily available for all. Do you hear that noise? That's the sound of me crossing my fingers in hope that this info is around...

I too am going to get a GDP 2-micron filter, I wanted to be certain that I would not

kill the OEM lift pump so I upgraded to the walbro some time back as well as a guage

to monitor FP. I pulled off the OEM 03 pump and just posted for sale in the classifieds,

better for it to be under someones seat than up on a shelf in the garage.

I would not have gone the walbro route if I could have bought a spare cansister

pump. Out here in Wyoming, I drive to some LONELY areas and the thought

and expense of a pump failure 100 miles out caused me to upgrade I'll probably

buy a spare walbro pump down the line to stuff under the seat, as it is I have as many tools and misc. parts and filters in truck as reasonably possible.

2 Micron here. Mounted to an AirDog. Have a few of them sitting on my work bench. Nothing like paying $8 for a 2 micron fuel filter. :-laf

i thought we ran that straight to your cp3?

you are correct but the canister still has the 7 micron in it. and it is full of fuel. so it is filtering the returned fuel :-laf

This is somewhat of a " CATCH 22 " situation with Bosch saying we need the

2u filtration and then having to replace the cheap factory lift pump in order

get an adequate rate of flow to the cp3 when using this filter. I'm not sure if the stock pump would pump thru a 2u filter or not , but I was afraid to chance

it being that the stocker is known to be failure prone as it is. It cost me

$600 + shipping to correct this DC mistake.

part#s please

Like several others on this board, I went with the GDP system. Replaced OEM lift pump with Walbro unit. I use a 7 micron filter in the OEM cannister. Fuel then runs through the 2 micron filter attached to the GDP mount and then goes to the CP3 pump. Fuel pressure going to the CP3 is 21 psi at idle and has not changed in 3k miles on this set up. I carry spare 2 and 7 micron filters that I can install if I notice a sudden drop in fuel pressure from a clogged filter.

Just for peace of mind, I will probably order a back up Walbro to carry as a spare. I think it would only take about 10-15 minutes to replace on the road if I had a failure.
