Last night when I started the truck outside of the garage and it wasn't plugged in and the "wait ti start" light turned off immediately. I thought this funny since it was about 10 outside. It did start without any problems. I let it warm up then a couple of hours later after leaving a B-day party it did the same thing. Normally with temps this low it would take much longer for the truck to cycle through. I haven't had to go anywhere today so I don't know if it is still doing this.

Second question: I finally got gauges, and i want to install them correctly and i had found some really good instructions on the internet or here but now i cant find them anywhere. did a search but found nothing like what i found before. The gauges that i have are Di-Pricol EGT,Boost Pressure, fuel pressure. They will be mounted in the A-pillar. Does anyone have really good instructions for the install?

My truck is a 2001. 5 ho quad cab 4x4 with a 4' big exhaust w/o muffler.

Thanks for any help that you guys can give me. I figure it is always best to go to the experts if you have questions.

:D

question #1:

That is strange that the truck was that cold and didn't require the grid heaters to cycle, but if the truck fired right up that is a sign that the intake was warm enough. unusually if the grid heaters don't work like they should in Arctic conditions the truck will not start at all or will start but run poorly until warmed up. . if it starts running badly at startup and its apparent the grid heaters arnt cycling i would start troubleshooting them, ie: check relays and make sure the grids arnt fried.

question #2:

here is a link to Diesel Injection Services install guides.

http://www.dieselpage.com/gimain.htm

the only gauge they don't show how to install is the fuel pressure. I installed my mechanical gauge by connecting a hose with a schrader valve on one end and a fitting on the other. I robbed the hose off my handheld fuel pressure tester.

 I then went to autozone and bought two oil pressure gauge install kits, put a fitting on the end of the existing hose fitting to hook up the plastic/nylon hose that came with the oil gauge kit, ran that hose in the cab up to the a-piller mounted gauge. many people don't like this setup because if you have a diaphragm in the gauge or a line break, fuel can leak in the cab, but i have never had any leaks and if i do i can just unscrew the schrader connection. :D

Thank you

SIXPACK:

Thank you for the quick reply the search forums will help. You aren't joking about hours of reading. Are you happy with your gauges it looks like you have the same ones that i have?:)

Chip:

Thank you also, that link was the one that i was thinking of, i just could not remember where i had found it before. I should have printed what i needed the first time that i found it.

As for the grid heaters i hope that nothing is wrong with them, but as you said it is starting fine and running good. i will have to keep an eye on them. It just stuck me as funny that they would do that all of a sudden like that.

Thanks again both of you.

Rob
