2 stroke Oil

Time to get after cutting wood, need to get some 2 stroke oil soon and was wondering what others have used with good results, have an older Husqvarna, Really old Commercial Homelite, and a new Stihl. When the Stihl was bought they gave me a few bottles of their Ultra 2 stroke oil. Its a big sucker saw that really eats trees but also eats fuel. Have other small equipment, leaf blower, weed eaters that need 2 stroke oil also, would be nice to use the same oil in all if that is possible

I have a pack of the Ultra on the shelf currently.. We are lucky enough to have a Stihl dealer within 2 miles of our house so I buy everything from there. I've never asked him the difference between the grades of 2-stroke oil. I'll make a point to the next time I stop in. All of my current 2-stroke equipment is Stihl and can use the same mixture for all of them.

Cheap Wally World stuff goes in my Ram fuel tank. When we rode Snowmobiles we used expensive Yamalube and my 40HP 2 stroke Merc OB got good oil. My cousin leaned the hard way a couple times that high performance 2 strokes need quality oil!!! The old Homelite will probably do fine on just about any oil. Shihl and Husquarna should get quality oil! SNOKING

I use the stihl oil in all my saws, all 11 of them, no problems runs great, SIL borrowed one and ran cheap junk in it, it took awhile to get it running right after he used it, Stick with the good stuff, Monte

I was a dealer for both Homelite(my Dad picked up the line when the saws were blue and had names like Buzz and Super Whizz)and Stihl for a long time. I still use the Stihl oil in all of my two-stroke equipment.

As a Stihl Silver Mechanic. I would only recommend using Ultra oil in Stihl products. They are all 50:1 oil/gas mix. As far as other makes the Ultra oil will work fine as long as the oil/gas ratio is correct for that particular piece of equipment. It is a very high quality synthetic 2 stroke oil and tested to burn cleaner than most oils.

THANKS that's some good info, one gas can for all the products 50:1 is what I have been running in all my 2 stroke equipment, even the old homelite that says 32:1 but a mech, has told me mix it 50:1 and you'll be fine its worked that way for years!!

I don't know if Ethanol is much of an issue in your part of the world but down here it is the devil. The stihl ultra takes care of the ethanol issue I use it in all of my 2 stroke motors and have no problems. Dad on the other hand is so tight he squeaks when he walks and buys what ever is the cheapest at wally world and usually has to have his chain saw and trimmer carburetor serviced every year cause it is gummed up.

On Bar\chain oil I normally use the stihl bar and chain lub cause I just buy some while I am getting the ultra 2 cycle, however last week I was out and just used Pennzoil 15w-30 cause that was what was handy and I was in a hurry to get the fences cleared after the storm and before the next storm.

We can get it, AND I DO in Seeley and Condon 91 OCT only, I use it in the Ford tractor, JD Gator, Yam Gen, all the gas toys, fill up my GI Jerry cans (10 of them) He gives me a ration of **** about my Cans because don't have DOT Approved and are not Vented, I tell him to turn me in to the DOT & EPA im a REAL DESPERADO BREAKING THE LAW, And while he's at it to make sure when they come out to fetch me, they take a look at the Vent System on your Station THAT DON'T WORK ALL THE TIME!!

I have been sending the wife in to fill them for me, He comes out and fills them for her, and says NOTHING about it then. Guess she's a bit easier to look at than me :-laf

THAT IS A CHAINSAW!!!

PS: Never been one for a hard hat, its not like when your cutting a tree that 40"+ that its going to save your A** but Woodcutter Helmet with ear muffs from Stihl is the best thing going for ear,face protection the ear muffs hold it on to your head.

Biggest issue with newer 2stroke engines is overheating from running too lean...thank you EPA. I use cheap oil myself, but there really isn't enough difference in price to not run whatever you think is the most premium.

Hard hats won't save you from the tree itself, but it sure does improve your odds from dead branches coming down on you. Had a close friend last summer get hit by a 3" branch from about 40 feet, his son was standing behind him and saw it happen. Hard to say if a hard hat would have saved his life or not but the outcome sure couldn't have been any worse.

In my opinion, 50:1 is too lean, I like 40:1.

For bar and chain use something that has Molybdenum disulfide. Most chain saw shops will have it in gallon containers. Some even have it in 55 gallon drums and sell it in bulk... bring your container!

I wear one of the Stihl helmets when I cut. I also wear a set of safety chaps. I've been wearing them for years and never needed them. That is, until I was cutting some firewood to length last summer. I don't even know what happed that caused the saw to bounce back. Anyway, I didn't realize that it hit my leg unil I noticed all the fibers from the chaps. The bar came right across my left knee when it bounced back. Can you imagine the numbe of stitches I would have had if I wasn't wearing those.......

Nick I have a long bed truck :-laf

Still don't need the truck bed I have a wagon that the mules pull with all the equipment on it, then use them to pull the stumps out after the are loosened up with some BIG FIRECRACKERS :-laf

42" is a good size bar, the saw can go up to a 59" I think was the max, we are cutting some pretty good size trees here, our Pines are 100 to 200 ft+ in some cases and the 42" bar won't cut thru with out making a cut on the OTHER SIDE. Some of the Tamaracks are of pretty good size also!!

I have been using the Ultra Oil in everything, have been doing some firewood cutting and some of the others that are in our Tribe of People have used the other 2 stroke equipment to take care of weeds and grass. The oil even feels different, I dabbed my finger in the cap on the Ultra and rolled it around with my thumb and then with the other oil that I used and it felt different. The ultra seems to smoke less even in the older equipment and its been used a bunch.

I do use ethanol free fuel we can only get 91 oct but it burns and runs fine in EVERYTHING.


Im jealous of your photo, besides cutting wood on my Breaks from building our Daughters house. Im sure glad that this is the last of the building so I can get back in the saddle. Been working 6 days a week 12 to 15 hours a day to get this done. So I can spend all fall in the mountains hunting.

Wife made plans for Church Sunday, I told her that im good with that. I will have the gang saddled up about dawn so we can get a good start to GOD'S COUNTRY!!

Of course we don't have to go far to be in God's Country
