Ok I have been reading about adding 2 stroke oil to the fuel and I just tried it yesterday. I used to have a 96 12 valve but now I have a 05 24 valve. In my old 12 valve I used to add a quart of ATF fluid every once in a while. What is the difference in using ATF or 2 stroke oil in the 05? It seems like they both add lube to the sorry fuel we have today.

Two stroke oil is designed to burn. ATF is NOT. Go to Wally and buy the gallon of the store brand outboard oil. Run a pint (16oz) per tank.

Last summer when I went to Yellowstone and back (2,000mi), I ran 16oz to the tank. I was towing our 7,000lb travel trailer. The truck ran super. I only noticed a little bit of film on the rt rear fender. I was also running my Smartyjr on the 70hp setting.

Side note: We were getting on the freeway in Idaho and the ramp was up hill. There were some real scroungy hitch hikers SITTING on their buts trying to flag a ride.
W-E-L-L... . My truck laid down a smoke screen that would have made the US Navy proud! Couldn't see the hitch hikers!
