Hey BIG!
Was looking at the deep Forest pictures and they remind me of some parts of Alaska!
Have you ever eaten Fiddle Ferns? The Fern stem before it unrolls in the spring.
Boiled with a little salt and dipped in melted butter. It tastes like lobster!

Sounds like our "Fiddleheads".

A great treat in the spring, cleaning them is kinda' tedious though.

Cool

Thats pretty cool on the fiddle-heads. When we went camping with the family my MIL is one of the best that I know of and all the girls in the family said she's the one that can teach me to live off the Earth. She took me out in a field in the mountains and we picked all kinds of things to eat. Didn't say anything about fiddle-heads I will ask. I can and have done pretty well shooting game to eat but always wanted to know about plant food's I was always kind of Leary about eating some of it because you can get pretty sick if you dont know how when to pick it and how to prepare it. Bear Grass is great the bears eat the stuff by the ton and pull up the plant and there is a bulb at the bottom thats about 3or 4 inches long and about the size of an egg around. Take the grass mince it up and boil the bulb smash it up and add butter put some of the minced grass you have mashed potatoes and chives. I ddint take these pictures but this is what it looks like fields and fieds of them AND THE BEARS THAT EAT THEM :-laf Thanks for the info.
