my truck is used as my daily driver. i don't tow anything really heavy [max like 5-6000lbs] i don't haul a camper in the bed. i like diesel engines. i like driving diesel engines. i don't ever really want to own a gasoline powered vehicle unless it is some sort of sports car [i like them subaru wrx sti's though] i had 20" rims on that red 1500 i had. they looked just right under it. now some of you want to go 19. 5's. ok fine, you are doing the same thing as people that go 20's or 22's or18's or whatever size aftermarket wheel/tires but maybe for a different reason. the wheels under a truck make/break the look of the truck. nice looking 20" wheels with 33" or 35" rubber on them look good. now if you have them 19. 5" wheels, you'll have 32" or 33" or 34" maybe 35" tires that will last forever [almost... ] that are hard as nails, more expensive, and, to me, don't look as good because the wheels are all really narrow [7. 5" max i think wide] and the tires are narrow [285's max for the 35" iirc] but you still have the same amount of sidewall showing... now ok, your tires/wheels are rated for way more than the suspension/brakes/frame in your truck can handle, and if you modify those [especially brakes] i can see that you can haul more weight. now you can get 20" forged wheels that are rated for 3000 lbs or better. and tires that are over 3000lbs. that will put you at 12000 lbs. if your truck weighs in at 8-9000 lbs that gives you 3-4000lbs that your tires can take. that is more than enough for most people/most applications...

now i don't mean to pi$$ people off, but i like the look of the 20's and some of the posts above did pi$$ me off some. narrow minded. if you don't like the 20's, you don't need to say anything.

Nick, I was being sarcastic. My point was that TravisG said he couldn't stand to be at the diesel pump and have the guy next to him tell him that he bought his truck just to drive. He thinks they sould be worked and anything else is a waste. Well, I bought my truck just to be driven. The only trailer it will tow is a small one with my motorcycle on it or maybe a boat. I'm buying a small utility trailer so I don't have to haul crap in the bed. I want my truck to look nice and be something that my wife can drive to the local cruise night when I take my street rod. I want to win "Best Dressed" or "Best of Show" at some of the events like May Madness or Thunder in Muncie (or wherever they hold it in 04).

My opinion on the 20" wheels is do whatever makes you happy. It's your truck and your money and far be it for ANYONE here tell you how to spend it.

Are you OK Nick? Nothing to get so worked up over. There's no accounting for someones taste (your's, mine, their's). I like the way Vaughn put it - we are a messed up lot - or somthing like that. :)

Hey thats just my honest opinion. I am sorry to ruffle any feathers. Like I said you will get everybodys opinion on this site, and I thought I would share mine. I do not like the looks of 20"s on big trucks, and I will stick with that. Drive what you want do what you want with your truck, I am pretty sure that there are several people out there that do not like my truck. (I would'nt see why not though:D )

Jeff I guess what I said about the fuel pump kind of came out the wrong way, but I can not figure out another way to express it. If Eric decides to have TiM here in St. Louie you guyz can all find me and kick the crap out of me, and then we can stand aroud and have and ice cold Budweiser and laugh about it.

X I have been keeping an eye on your posts, and I have to say that you definetely (sp?) joined the right sight to get all of your questions answered. You will hear from some of the smartest guyz I have ever met on here, and you will even get some smarta@#es too.

If I could dictate what the tire/market offered, there would be a lot of AFFORDABLE 18" and 20" HD forged wheels available for our trucks. Clean simple design, polished finish. Basically an attractive wheel that is lighter than steel.

Then there would be tires in 50, 55, 60 and 65 aspect ratios offered so you can get the height and width combo you're going after. Right now there are some gaps (it's quite a jump from 285/60/18 to 305/50/20, not much in between). Tires that aren't necessarily high-performance in terms of soft compound & grippy tread, but with a high speed rating (at least 120mph) and durable tread and strong carcass. Tires available in M/S or with aggressive tread also.

There is something wrong with every wheel/tire combo available:

18s and 20s mostly do not have the right offset for our trucks (stick out too far), and are very expensive/flashy/pimpy. The tires that go on them are mostly too light-duty, but the acceptible ones are spendy and wear out fast.

Truck 19. 5s are HD and last a long time but are quite heavy, skinny, and don't have a very high speed rating thanks to the high tire mass. I think it's around 90mph if I'm not mistaken.

My, if only it was a perfect world!!

Travis, I have no beef with you. You buy your truck to suit your needs and I do the same. I hope Eric has TiM in St. Louis. It's closer for me. Save a cold one for me.
