Hello everyone,

I now have about 82,000 miles on my 2001. 5 automatic.

I first started noticing that when I come to a complete stop (stop sign, etc), when I start to accelerate, the truck is in in 2nd gear.

If I shift into "1", it stays in 2nd for 25-30 sec at idle speed and then shifts to 1st and stays in 1st until I move the back to "2" or "D", then it IMMEDIATELY shifts back into 2nd, even if I keep my foot on the brake, and don't move while in 1st.

If I rev the engine a bit after shifting to "1", it will downshift to 1st in about 5 seconds.

In "D", I came to a complete stop on a slight incline, just enough that the truck wouldn't move forward at idle speed, with my foot off the brake. The truck stays in 2nd for 25-30 sec, shifts to 1st momentarily, just enough that I can feel the truck start to creep forward, then shifts back to 2nd. It will go through this cycle over and over and over.

I have not disabled the overdrive.

What things have to happen for the transmission to shift up into 2nd?

What things could be happening that might cause the transmission to be in 2nd at a complete stop?

Thanks for your help.

You need to know what the gov pressure sensor is in the trans at a stop in D range. If the gov pressure is above 3 psi it starts you off in next gear up and sometimes will not let you manualy down shift to 1st. You need to get a scan tool and check that first with codes... ...

I have an 02 that just started doing the same thing yesterday. It started off delaying shifting into 2nd if I was acceleratining realy slow. Then by the time I got home, it wasn't down shifting into 1st. It would start in 2nd, then shift fine.

I changed the fluid & filter about 15k ago. It has 80k now.

I'll check the codes, then its off to the dealer, since its still under warranty.

Anyone have any problems with getting trans problems covered when they are running oversized tires?

I just called the dealer. My truck is covered. They do call it an extended warranty, but it was something that Chrysler was offering when I bought the truck. I didn't pay extra for it.

it is the transducer in the valvebody been there twice they say to replace as a pair even had a bad one out of the box parts are like 150. 00 i think the little screen it there gets clogged and bye bye

Ok, just checking. A LOT of ppl are told by their dealer/salesman, that transmission and all the drive train are included in their 100,000 mile warranty. If you read it, they aren't. Then they find out when they have a problem, they have to pay for a new transmission.

If the dealer says they'll cover it you should be good to go... ...

Dealer thought it might be a sticky valve and put an additive in the transmission fluid. No help yet.

Found a Member2Member article in TDR issue 44 (May/June/July 2004) on page 30. Jack Piercy of Jasper, MO reported that a replacement of the governor-pressure solenoid ($125) did not fix the problem. He gives detailed information about installing a resistor near the PCM to control an overvoltage problem.

As for my truck, it will have to wait until next week.

Thanks for the replies.
