Hello everyone,
I now have about 82,000 miles on my 2001. 5 automatic.
I first started noticing that when I come to a complete stop (stop sign, etc), when I start to accelerate, the truck is in in 2nd gear.
If I shift into "1", it stays in 2nd for 25-30 sec at idle speed and then shifts to 1st and stays in 1st until I move the back to "2" or "D", then it IMMEDIATELY shifts back into 2nd, even if I keep my foot on the brake, and don't move while in 1st.
If I rev the engine a bit after shifting to "1", it will downshift to 1st in about 5 seconds.
In "D", I came to a complete stop on a slight incline, just enough that the truck wouldn't move forward at idle speed, with my foot off the brake. The truck stays in 2nd for 25-30 sec, shifts to 1st momentarily, just enough that I can feel the truck start to creep forward, then shifts back to 2nd. It will go through this cycle over and over and over.
I have not disabled the overdrive.
What things have to happen for the transmission to shift up into 2nd?
What things could be happening that might cause the transmission to be in 2nd at a complete stop?
Thanks for your help.
