Will 235's fit on the newer ally rims? I want the longest wearing tire I can find. I know 235/85r16 are the same dia. as 265/75r16 that are on the truck.

The new alloy rims are 16x8. The 235/85r-16 tires will work fine on those wheels, but your size comparison is off a bit by my info. The 265/75's are closer to 32", the 235/85's are closer to 33" (depends HEAVILY on brand). Check the manufacturers spec sheet online or at a tire store for your tires.

The 235's are 32'' tall. Real close to the 265's. BFGoodrich does'nt recommend the 235's on an 8'' rim. Only 6''-7''. I think the 265's are too narrow for the stock rims anyway. JMO though. I'm getting 16x7 Alcoa rims with the 265's.

I don't see how the 235's would wear any better than 265's. If they are the same diameter, then the wider tire would seem to wear longer.

IMHO I think the 235's on the 8" rims would baloon them out pretty good at the sidewalls. You may have the shop mount one and put it on the ground to see what you and they think. Just a thought.

This photo shows a BFG A/T KO 235/85-16 mounted on 16x7 Alcoa Classic wheel. Note the bead protector on the BFG's which is a great feature.

What exactly is a bead protector??

I have heard of a bead protector on rims, but have no idea what it is or what it does?

Thanks,

Tom

bead protector

Tom,

The bead protector he is referring to on the BFG's is a thick area on the tire where the tire meets the wheel. It protrudes further than the outside edge of the wheel so the wheel doesn't rub on curbs, trees, small critters or whatever you get too close to! I agree with MDKram, they can save a high price wheel.
