I have seen a lot of write ups on going from the 5spd to a 6spd and 6spd to Auto. But not much on Auto. to 5spd. I'm not looking for a breakdown in parts just the install and modification needs. Is there a good write up on this somewhere in an issue or on the forum? I just want to see what all is really involved before I make that choice. Seeing as I bought 1 transmission from a company 6 months ago and have had to pull two of them out for warranty, reject 1 for having a cracked bell housing and just installed the 3rd that has a bad fluid pump. I'm trying to see what would be involved in this conversion before laying down any $ on either a quality automatic or all the parts for the conversion. Please don't answer with "It's an easy conversion". That answer is like the answer of "k" from a text message. Makes you wanna scream! Thanks.

Although your question is regarding an '01 24 valve you might want to post a similar message in the 12 valve forum also. You may receive more responses from owners of earlier trucks.

I did this conversion on 1996 and it is not hard to do it is best to get all your parts from the donor truck such as flywheel, clutch, adapter plate and transfer case it will bolt right in to the cross member and everything i had shorten one drive shaft 1 1/2 in and lengthen the other one by the same amount

I just ordered a RevMax trans. today. I go pick it up on Thursday. You get what you pay for is defiantly the truth so this one should be great.
