I am guessing from what I have read that you have one of the better blocks, if not the best.

I can tell you, if you don't see the number 53 in one inch high letters on the left side of the block below the power steering pump, you DON'T have a 53 block. :D

Does anyone know what the dealers are doing about a cracked block? Replacing the entire engine, rebuilding using another block, or "fixing" the old block?

The reason I ask, I was just informed that a freind of mine with a '99, has a cracked block, unsure if it's the "53" or not at this point (he doesn't live that close to me, and hasn't looked himself yet), but it is cracked between 5 and 6 under the freeze plug. Good news is, he's under warrenty.

Thanks, Rob

I found mine just above the oil pan, right on the edge, in a large casting window, in 1" numbers. 55 6" from the front of the motor. OverFueled

From what I have read, based on other members that had theirs replaced he gets a new short block.

WooooHoooo!!

Both the 01 & 02 have small series of numbers on the block.

I know the 01 came out of the St. Louis plant so I'm a bit surprised. 01/2000 build date.

I tried to get a picture but it's too tight to get the camera into.

There is a God!

30* and I'm laying on the muddy driveway for a look...

Oo. 55Oo.

Truck was built in Mexico, and there was a little doubt in my mind after reading all the different 53 block threads.

Easy to find the numbers. Right above the oil pan and in the open.

It is damn close to 0?F out side here and my dumb a$$ is out in the middle of the night roling around in the snow with a flash light because this site makes me paranoid;)

55 put a smile on my face though:cool:
there were a bunch of other numbers just back from the big 55 but I could nto find a way to get in there to see them and I did not have a mirror. Any idea what they are?

2001. 5 eth built 8/00

well

Well Ted Constantine I did the same thing here just now rolling around in the driveway with the snow here in Michigan. What I could see on mine was as marked!! ANY IDES GUY’S??

I found a similar number pattern as PROTURBO99. The numbers are easy to read so does that indicate a Brazilian block? I can't find a big 50 series number anywhere. It looks like this

M1

26 A3B1

Anyone know where this block was made? AC

just a note

Just a note

After reading this post any many more like it I decided to check mine also. I believe some people are looking at the wrong number in regards to the long, smaller, hard to read numbers and the location of the numbers. My block unfortunately has the dreaded 53, mine is stamped on both sides of the block directly across from each other towards the front. you must look from under the truck to see the 53. I also have a list of numbers i. e. 8141010 or something close to that, hard to read, these are just above and a little towards the rear of the 53, seen from under the truck and through the wheel well. I'm just curious if some that are seeing the list of numbers are not getting under and looking closer, as I did the first time I looked. I saw the list and figured I did not have the 53, but after a closer look there it was. So don't take this the wrong way but if see a list of numbers I would go underneath and look a little closer. Only speaking from experience.

OOps one more thing my build date was 5-00 in Mexico

DOB is Feb. 22, 2000 at 9pm

Zorro, you can find your truck's build date to the hour

The sticker on the quad door gives the build date (month and year).

If you look at the bottom left of the sticker there it says MDH followed by a 6-digit number such as 070514. MDH = "Month/Day/Hour" which represents the 6 digits of the number. In the example "07" =July, "05" =5th of the month, and "14" =1400 hours or 2pm.

My truck's MDH is 022221 which means it rolled off the assembly line Feb. 22, 2000 at 9pm :)

Thanks!

Just checked; it's 021716. Feb 17, 4pm, looks like. Not too far ahead of yours; probably just a couple hundred thousand! :)

For a block that is outnumbered 8 to 1 seems alot of people have the mexican block. That tells me that peoplare not looking at the right #'s. When I checked mine at first all I saw was a bunch of smaller #'s. Then deciding that I should take a closer look at it I realized that I somehow missed the large #'s staring me in the face. 55  I suggest to those who think they have the mexican block to take another look. Lay on your back under the drivers side of the truck and put your finger on the spot where the oil pan meets the block. (At the front of the engine on the driver's side. ) Then look right above there. The 53 or 55 #'s are stamped into a recessed area below the large wire loom and are easy to overlook untill you find it and wonder how you missed it. Then above that are a bunch of smaller #'s that are partially covered by the wire loom. These are not the #'s you are looking for. I have both sets of #'s but the only one that matters is the 55. Bet there will be a few less mexicans and more brazilians. :D Regardless... . I will sleep better here on out.
