Sounds to me like everone is getting pretty good mileage! Considering the size, weight, etc... . of the trucks we're driving! I too have a 2001-2500-swb-4x4,auto 3. 54 gears w/ 5000 miles on it. My first few tanks of fuel I was getting about 16. 5 to 17 mpg, 50/50 (intown/highway) Please note, all fuel was and is still being purchased at the same station, and I've been driving very respectfully trying to get the most mileage possible! After those first few tanks my mileage has decreased to 13. 8 and no more than 14. 5!!!!!! I too need help and or advise, will mine increase after 15,000 or just level off at 14mpg? Anyway it's still better than my old 3/4 ton Chevy 4x4,(gasser) which averaged 7 mpg!

I just filled up with my third tank of fuel. 581 miles on 30. 5 gal. = 19 MPG. Mostly freeway driving around town (Aurora to DIA). What was really neat was filling up at Flying J in Aurora where unleaded regular was $1. 49 and Diesel was $1. 35! I think the truckers tend to keep the truck stops "honest", so that the prices don't follow the large price swings that gas does. I'm #ad

I just got back from a trip to Austin last weekend and averaged 20. 2 mpg. I also used this as a test to see how the computer works and it was only about 1/2 mile difference from the odometer if I multiplied the computer number by gallons. I will say that is close enough at 545 miles. I use the constant throttle method. I got this mileage even when I-35 was closed for construction most of the way through Austin. Let's see how she does next week for the trip to Houston.

David,
If you were to look back at previous posts, you'd find a lot of dicussion on milage. I have over 10k on mine and it is slowly going up, The key is the speed on which you drive, the faster you go, the worse the mileage. I have done different tests on the instant reading on different terrein, and there is a magic area that after 60 to 65 is great, then it goes down from there to 70 and 75.
At 65 or so I get around 18 -20 MPG on flat freeway, sometimes up to 22 for a sort time... .

at 70-75, I get 15-17MPG on the instant, samr strech of freeway so engine speed is the key.
I have 3. 54 rearend and a 6sp. I have a leer cabhigh shell also
My best mileage for the average was 19. 7 and if I do a trip a long one, and keep it steady, I can get over 20 if there is no headwind...
just some more info for you to ponder

I average about 21-22 MPG, and that is 70% highway and 30% city driving. Steady highway yields an additional 2-3 MPG. I usually cruise at 65-70 MPH.

I drove to Big D and back yesterday for the meeting. Fuel tank is more than half. That is less than 30 gallons. I figured I got better than 20. That is on the freeway runnin between 75-80. Tailgate down and the ac on. My console meter says 21 avg now and that is after I drove around town today. I think they have to get some miles on em first. It didn't do quite that good at first. David I have an Uncle that lives in Redfield.

I've been getting 15. 5 to 16. 5 on winter fuel, and I went down south and filled up with good old pure #2 and was getting 16. 9 to 18. 5 (empty), driving 65-75; thats with a bigger than stock aluminum body with back-up-work lights that stick way up and big old truck mirrors. It sure improved after I bombed. . .

17. 98 on the first tank.
18. 02 on the second tank.
18. 5 on the third tank.

Towed a 7,000 pound trailer for a couple of thousand miles on vacation.

19. 5 and 19. 6 for the last two tanks. (Coming up on 5,000 miles. )

Beats the heck out of the 13. 7 I'd get with my old 360CID gasser! (Especially now that diesel is 22 cents a gallon cheaper than regular unleaded in my neck of the woods!)

Now that the weather has warmed up a little, not that it gets that cold here, and the winter blend has started to go away my mileage is on the way up again. I averaged 17. 8 on my last tank, mixed driving in traffic and highway at 70 to 75 mph. I'm pretty happy with that for a 7200 lb truck with an auto transmission, just turned 16K.

38,000 since 5/18/00. 18. 2 mpg for every mile travelled. Headwinds kill mileage for the 4X4, as do speeds in excess of 70 or 75. If I could drive the speed limit, I'm sure I could easily add 1 or 2 mpg. I think that is serious performance for a 7000 lb. vehicle that passes like a sports car, and grossing 10,000 lbs. can't be slowed down by hills in our area. I've added a VA box, but don't think that has affected mileage - on the other hand I may be enjoying the benefits a little too much. And yes, I'm way too old to be having this Hp. addiction!

Here's my . 02. I've had 3 of these 24 valvers and I think the trick is to drive conservatively, and not worry about mileage until after 10k. I got 14-15 towing a 15000 pound 5er with my 3500 5-speed, and my new 2500 eth/dee only delivered 11 pulling my new downsize tagalong (7000 lb). When I get the sucker broke in it'll do better.

Thanks much all.
Okie Newton, is your uncle's name Ray? Just wondering if it is, I know him well.
That trip is next weekend, I'm looking forward to it. Going to workout the Ram and get to play with my other toys. It don't get any BETTER #ad

I think it has to do with your driving habits, with the 24 valvers. I get 26. 5-26. 9 at 65 mph. I get 24 mpg at 70 mph. I get 28. 5 going 57 mph. With the 24 valvers, the milage varies greatly with the speed you are going. Friends of mine with 16 valvers get more consistant milage over a broader speed. they seem to get around 25-26 on the highway, but 20-22 in the city.

What speed were you getting 14-15 mpg?

Smokin', This was averaging 65 on the interstates, slower of course on the 2-lanes. I think the shape of the 5-er had something to do with it.
