Bad injectors very rarely cause engine damage on a 24-valve, since it's a jerk-pump injection system. Injectors don't "go bad" on a 12 or 24 valve very often and when they do it's usually nothing worse than a slight miss, blue smoke, rough idle.
But on a common rail 2003 and up a bad/sticky injector can quickly kill a motor, because the constant high pressure fuel supply the injector turns into a blowtorch and destroys the piston. Unfortunately this has happened many times however as a percentage of the total trucks out there it's not that big of problem (especially when the truck is properly maintained and good fuel is used).
