hello i have a pretty urgent problem with my 04. 5 common rail . out of the blue it started idling roughly and pooring white smoke out the exhuast. truck has 130 thousand miles on it its a 6 speed four wheel drive. it has an airdog 150 on it with to fresh filters. an edge juice programmer and cold air intake system . took and had injectors tested and 2 tested bad and the rest werent far behind. so got a whole brand new set of +50 horse injectors and still did not change a thing. so i pulled the injectors and ordered the adapter to check the compression on the isb

#1 370 psi

#2 470 psi

#3 475 psi

#4 470 psi

#5 460 psi

#6 100 psi

know I know theres something up with #6 but just dont want to go pulling the head for no good reason . also not sure why #1 would be 100 psi less then the rest. I was talkin to the guy that did my injectors and he seemed to think that if the tip was clog on the injector and the fuel was just kinda dripin out that it would pool on the dome of the piston and could burn a hole thru it or if it was sprayin to only one side of clyinder that it could burn down the skirt of the piston . I do some to have a good bit of blow by to tho. its enough to float the oil cap on the valve cover. just wanted some thoughts before I start tearing her down

Did you see any increase in oil level before the injector change? Did you have an oil analysis done? If so, what was the fuel dilution level on the old injectors? What # cylinders did the bad injectors come out of? Any change in coolant level or color?

Did you run your truck under any high EGT conditions before the problem began? #6 is the most common to be damaged under high temp conditions. With the blow-by and compression results, it sounds like you have a problem in #6 for sure. Just trying to help you try and determine the cause.

I did not have the oil Tested but I'm pretty sure the oil level has risin but no color change or fuel smell In oil. The two bad injectors came out of #1 and#5 I'm pretty sure of

Joe a good Shadetree way to check for fuel in the oil is to get a paper towel. drip some oil onto the paper towel from the dipstick and look to see if a clear wet area appears around the oil drop. if you see the clear wet area you have fuel in the oil.

If the bad injector didn't come out of #6, most indications are that you've got a broke ring, and perhaps a galled piston. #6 and #1 are the most prone, and from my experience, that looks like what you have... . Is there oil around the exhaust manifold where it bolts to #6 exhaust port? How long did it hold 100psi compression?

Im un sure of how long It was holding it do to my compression gauge and adapter havin a valve stem type thing in it so it holds the pressure so I read it after Cranking it over a few turns It's hard when it's a one man operation.

Durn. I hate to hear that. The oil around the exhaust manifold is a dead giveaway that the rings are gone. Sounds like the head needs to come off and a cylinder wall check is in order... . You might can scrape by by lifting the engine, pulling oil pan, pushing the piston and connecting rod out, and honing the cylinder if the scoring is not too bad, then installing a new set of rings and most likely a piston... ... . Otherwise, it's off to the machine shop or find another engine. I have a 5 gal bucket full of these things that are toasted..... :cool: As Crazy Larry would say, "... . and another one bites the dust!!" :{
