Help! Over the last 2 days I have been having stalling problems at idle. Just left me in traffic with all the honking and yelling that comes with that. Truck has 70K miles. I have been able to get it to start eventually, but only with foot on the pedal and cranking on the starter. This is just not right. What do I have going on---fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors??? Figure I'll start with fuel filter cuz it is cheapest? Thanks in advance for any help/diagnostic ideas/references.

If you haven't changed the filter in a while it sounds like a good idea. But it doesn't sound like your problem.

Injectors woud make it run rough and hard to start.

Could be FCA or the lift (fuel) pump.

Do fuel pressure test and it's a good idea to put a fuel pressure gauge in the truck. You can run 2 cans of 2 stroke ashless outboard oil in the engine see if the stalling stops but the FCA usually cause a rough engine also but not always.

Using the key trick see if you have any codes stored.

Thank you! Thought filter was too easy. Will check for codes for sure. What is FCA? I may be covered under warranty, but if not, any recommendations for brand of lift pump?

Fuel Control Actuator (FCA) is on back of the CP3 (high pressure fuel pump) controls amount of fuel going into the common rail.

FASS or Air Dog low pressure/ high gph fuel pumps connected to frame.

Could be a sensor acting up.

The codes will narrow it down. (key on,key off, key on, key off,key on, look at your odemeter).

Sounds like the fuel pump . Has it ever been replaced under warranty with the intank pump. It should be throwing a code as said.

Haulin' it to the dealer Monday. Any Dodge dealer recommendations in the North County San Diego area? Hopefully one that will honor the warranty and not blame my fuel pump? issue on bad fuel.

The dealer in Escondido is OK if it's the fuel pump it is covered under the 100k engine warranty and you shouldn't pay a deductible
