Ooops

ford autos

there is a rumor going around my area and supposedly in magazines that in 2005 ford is going to be putting the cummins in their trucks. can anyone give some insight, also they are saying that ford owns cummins which i have heard in the past. please let me know so i can know if this is true or not. thanks tad.

Although the Cummins could be for the F-650"s and F-750's.

But you can get them NOW in those models.

Those phord guys must want a Cummins REAL Bad too be making this up ;)

That is real interesting. I believe most of the 3/4 to 1 ton truck buyers bought the Dodge because of the Cummins motors. If DC is STUPID enough to put in a Mercedes diesel in the 3/4 to 1 ton Dodge trucks in the future. . then maybe ferd might put in the Cummins in their trucks because even ferd knows which motor is better. We all know the new 6. 0 liter powerjoke is a POS. :D

I can't blame them, right now the Cummins is the best out there. And the Ford is quiet possibly the best truck out now. I sure wouldn't mind that combo.

I daresay this is untrue. DC's contract with Cummins is an exclusive contract, meaning no other P/U maker can install Cummins engines in their P/U trucks as OEM equipment. This is why you don't see the Cummins in Ford or Chevy P/U trucks from the factory.

And, yes, in the past, Ford owned some percentage of the outstanding shares of Cummins. But Ford sold that stake many years ago.

Nope, DC has an exclusive thru 2007......

However MB is developing, in Germany, an optional MB diesel for the Ram... Supposed to put out ungodly HP and torque numbers... ... And Detroit Diesel in Canada, now owned by DC, is rumored to be developinging a smaller diesel intended for the 1/2 ton Ram, Dakota, Durango etc... .

Being I work on Benz, I hear about a few Diesels rolling around. One in particular is a twin turbo V8, capable of 500hp and 950torque. That wouldnt' be to bad.....

I'm with y-knot on this one

IF... and that's a BIG IF... . i could get a Cummins in an F-350... ... i would do it in the blink of an eye... ... no questions asked.

Y-knot: your dead on as far as the engine goes but I would differ with you on the Truck. Its only my opinion but the quality of these Dodges keeps increasing by leaps an bounds. Ive owned a 92,97,99,and now an 04 . Each one has impressed me with real improvements and from looking around at some of the fords right now(not engine related) I'd say Dodge has them beat on durability and quality by quite a bit. The only thing that I feel we need to wait and see on is the 48re. :) ;)

Dodge just extended the contract beyond 07. I dont think a MB diesel OPTION would hurt business any. Not to mention that MB has as good of engines as Cummins in my opinion. Those old I-5s just seemed to go on forever. Ive seen several with 300k plus. Mercedes or Cummins would be a tough choice. The HP and Torque would be the tiebreaker. I would even volunteer to be a guinea pig. Give me an MB for a year. I will see if I can break it.
