I just broke the Heated Tow mirror on my 2005 Ram.

Are there any special instructions or tips on installing a new mirror glass only?

I did the same last winter backing into the garage.

Call your local Dodge dealer, give them all the information, include mirror part # off your mirror and tell them you need just the glass.

I got mine (heated, power, tow) for just under $60. 00 for the glass. It's easy to replace.

Thank you for your reply.

I had to give them the last 8 of my VIN and my price was $65. 00. I don't have the part number because it is coming from a Dodge dealer I do business with out of state.

Are there instructions in the box that describe the steps to change it?

It's been a while since I've done it, but you can tilt the mirror all the way to one side and see the clip that keeps the mirror head on. Once you release the clip, the mirror comes out, you unplug wiring and replace the mirror. You can either buy the full mirror/backing plate assembly from Mopar, or get glass only (w/heat grid) at a glass shop as I did. It was about $20.

Pages 23-42 to 23-44 in the 03 service manual detail the replacement.

Stand mirror up (tow)
Adjust full out (wide) position
Midway on inside edge you should see 2 wire ends pointing away from each other. They are the ends of a large circular (actually hexagon shaped) spring clip that keeps the mirror head in place. Push the ends away from each other to dis-engage the mirror head.

to re-assemble, put the clip in place and the mirror should just snap back in.

I had to replace the entire R/H mirror assembly and now the new updated part does not have defrost on the blind spor portion of the mirror. Does anyone know if I can get a replacement mirror that does have the heated blind spot portion or am I just out of luck?

Thanks,

Ray
